You are a long way from the Mazda plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, but I'm not.

Next time I go by there, I'll take 2 pictures for you, that is, if they haven't changed the building's around.

On the south end of the plant, the AAI Alliance/Mazda name appears, on the north end of the plant, it says AAI/Ford.

Mazda is famous for something other than putting a Wankel Rotary in a car, they also pioneered a special type of light bulb. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Bob,

I agree with you except on one thing, the ownership of CNH Global. It is majority owned by an Italian company not French. The Angelli Empire is the owners, better know as Fiat.....

( Well, if its a larger John Deere starting with the Utility tractors they turn into John Deere designed and built JD Powertech engines. )

Well, that may be streching the truth a little. The 5003 series utility tractors are built in India for JD. I observed a 5103 with a JD powertech engine that was clearly labled "Made in Mexico".

JD designed? Yes
JD built?.....Sort of /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That would be cool. They are also famous for the world's smallest production V6 engine ever made. Used in the MX-3 GS. I did not know that about the light bulb. My dad has worked for Mazda since the 1980's and I never heard anything about that. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Woodbeef, you are right, an Italian group not a French group owns Case/New Holland. In either case they would be speaking German if not for my uncles fighting to free them.

And Soundguy, technically you are right about foreign ownership of radio stations, however Vivendi & General Electric are in the midst of a merger and that will yield a huge multi-national partially European, partially American company that controls NBC. And via stock ownership, millions of foreigner own parts of many of our broadcast companies (as well as every other type of company).

And all we do is go to buy the cheapest junk from Wal Mart to save a few cents and then we all complain about foreigners taking over when we are forcing it to happen. If we can't compete then our industries will die, and to be blunt, they should. But in order to compete, we can't let the unions demand wages/benefits that are so inflated as to drive the jobs overseas. And we also can't accept regulations that are so expensive to install that even if our workers would do the job, the factories are so capital intensive as to be uncompetitive for investors to build.

The only thing that Mazda of Japan has in common with Mazda light bulbs is the name. It was (is??) a trademark of the Westinghouse Corporation. The box pictured in the attachment came from my 1928 Buick. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

( ...very few of us (less than 1% of our population) are from HERE, we came from somewhere else. ) Technically everyone in the USA today is an immigrant. The "Indians" immigrated here the same as everyone else; the just did it earlier than most. Being born here, I am just as much a "Native American" as anyone. Sorry, but that statement just hit a sore spot with me. In regards to the remainder of your post I agree wholeheartedly. Case in point: my employer just this week announced that the 1200 union manufacturing jobs here in Syracuse will be moving to either China or Singapore. The blame falls mainly to the union for being a thorn in the side of management for years, as well as the State of New York for being so business unfriendly. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

First off, this is not a reply or message to anyone in particular (no offense, MJB, please)...and I haven't hung around the board as long as a lot of folks, but the subject of where tractors are actually made comes up about every two weeks (and I like that discussion - it's neat to find out where tractors and parts of tractors actually come from) - and invariabley, it leads to long threads with lots of folks whining, griping and complaining about people not buying American products, American products being overpriced, crappy, unavailable, is the Unions fault, big business's fault, the city/county/state/federal government's fault, blah blah blah blah blah - country's economy is the toilet blah blah blah blah jobs going overseas blah blah blah blah...

...and I'm not saying it's NOT partially/fully true, but what does all the political diatribe have to do with tractors? I love to hear about different tractors from around the world - I wish I knew as much about where they come from as Woodbeef has forgotten-but everytime the subject comes up, off we go down the exporting jobs/importing products thread, and I have to weed through twenty griping posts to find out that some of the JD tractors are made in Mexico or India...

...and again, I'm not saying that you guys aren't right or have some sort of point, but does it have to be re-hashed over and over and over...?

I really doubt that this will stop or even slow the comments about the economy/import-export defenciency, etc, but at least I got it off my chest, and maybe that's all the posters need to do...but do we have to do it every time somebody asks where tractors really come from?

Why don't we just tell them a stork brought them or we find new tractors under cabbage leaves...at least that would be different.
