There are few pesticides less toxic than glyphosate.

For a low impact start (to minimize chemical applications) if there is any grass left, you might consider mowing the pastures frequently at 4" to 6" high over the summer. That will help kill a good bit of the weeds but not all. Then in fall seed with a no-till drill with the seed blend of your choice.

In spring start mowing again. You have a good chance of avoiding spraying any chemicals if the pastures are reseeded and can get established. The grass can choke out many of the weeds.

If necessary spray a broad leaf pesticide in the spring.

Of course it will pay to do a soil analysis if you haven't and fertilize and lime per the analysis. Many weeds grow in soils that won't support grass where the soil is in need of nutrients.

Yes, and some of these articles follow today's trend of hiring writers to fill space. They copy word for word what had been written. No fact checks or grammar and spelling checks.

I went to talk to a lady that wants me to reseed her pastures. She has moved her horses to my place and doesn't want to take care of horses anymore. Her meadows as she called them are beat up pretty bad. Nothing but weeds left after 2 years of keeping horses on them.

I don't do this for a living but have had good success at my place establishing pasture. The trick is to keep them off of it in the winter and whenever gets wet. I have searched on here about Roundup and there doesn't seem to be much on TBN about NOT using Roundup.

When I suggested we burn it off this summer before I start planting she freaked. Roundup causes cancer in lab rats in Cal. No no no that is nasty stuff. She sent me an article about how bad it is. But it also said that without roundup America would starve to death.

So what is a better substitute to use. My research shows vinegar and Dawn soap. But some say this is very limited to killing anything. There is about 8 acres to do. Anybody have any suggestions?

Syngenta stock has made a couple of jumps in the last week. I have friends that work at both and they are following it very closely. It could have a huge impact on my job.
