A very dumb question on Roosters

It's the pedigree of the cocks. I bet some of those birds sell for a grand an probably much more.
I'm guessing some here on this forum may have spent a grand on some kind of animal in their lives, but if it was for a rooster, I'd love to hear about it and why ;)

I think the world champion fights are in the Philippines.

Do me a favor and show me some links on what roosters sell for in your area.

Looking in my neck of the woods, I honestly don't see a return on investment for what it costs in shelter along with feed on what you can sell them for.

That's why I was wondering why someone would take a half way decent looking home and put a 100 roosters on their property along with barrels in their front yard.

Even at $100 per bird (on the high side locally from what I could find), after taxes and overhead, I just don't see the ROI.
Back in my youth, old guy drive his roosters around in Cadillac. He said they bought , so they can ride In it

I view cockfighting no different than dog fighting.

Just take everyone out back and put them down like you would with the animals.
Agree, it is totally inhumane, the other reason I didn't take my neighbor up on it. I know it would have disturbed me greatly to watch that.

Considering cock fighting in a felony in NC, I didn't give the notion much of an idea.

The more I read up on it, can't help but think it's a 50/50 bet its on cock fighting.

That said, not certain I'd build a fence and put all that crap up in my front yard for everyone to see driving by the road if I was thinking about making money doing something illegal.

Although I'm not a choir boy by any means (particularly in my youth), can honestly say I never made money illegally.

Guess the difference between roosters and dogs is you don't have to train the roosters...

Guess the simplest way to find out if anything illegal going on is to follow the money trail (along with shipping), if you actually wanted to spend your time on it.
there are several around me. They are most likely just breeding them and selling them. Here, there is no law/ restrictions when it comes to breeding and selling game cocks. Just the actual fighting of them

I have been to 3 different cock fights in 3 different countries on 2 continents. I was invited by my hosts and I viewed it as a way to immerse myself in their culture. Is it inhumane I suppose it is, but so is the treatment those poor chickens endured to make your chick-fil-a sandwich you ate the other day. You have seen those trucks driving down the road full of caged chickens crapping all over themselves. Lots of animals are treated inhumanely but we turn a blind eye to it because steak is good, chicken sandwiches are good. This is no different except these rooster live a much more noble life and die a good death, not crapping on themselves in a cage so you can eat them fried up slathered in special sauce.

I want to add an addendum to my previous post. I am not defending cock fighting. I do not think it should be legal per se. It is indeed quite brutal and not really enjoyable to watch. But lots of cultures view things very differently than we do in the good ol US of A. What we see as brutal and inhumane does not always cross cultural boundaries.

By that a standard ISIS was cool, just practicing their culture.

HAHAHA! Well when you put it that way... but I think beheadings and cock fighting are a little different. But I do get your point.

By USDA and most laws, if there wasn't a carve out, Kosher and Halal (its the same thing basically, funny how similar the groups are, as they try to wipe each othwr out) meat processing would be illegal.

There are absolutely things that differ culturally, and that's good. We don't eat horse in US, but it's prized in France.

There comes a time in life you can say "I don't need to have an opinion on what others do, if it doesn't affect me".
