I know it's not the first time you all had snow down there, does any of the towns or state highway dept have snow plows?

To the best of my knowledge, none of the towns or state highway department facilities have snow plows. The biggest snows in Texas are in the panhandle, so they might have some up there. I remember once, many years ago, when we had an unusually large snow that the DFW Airport authorities decided they needed to have one or two snow plows on hand; don't know whether they still have any or not, but probably do. All the road maintenance facilities in this area stockpile sand to put on the roads when they become icy. Dallas used to have huge piles of sand with 100 pounds of salt per cubic yard. I guess they're still using the same ratio, but don't know that to be a fact.

Looking out the door here at work and it is snowing heavy here in Mont Belvieu, TX about 40 miles east of Houston. Temps are dropping and about 36to 38F. Very rare for this part of the state.

Yep, we're having some unusual weather for sure. Houston shows right now to be one degree cooler than Denton and all the precipitation is far south of us today.

the one and only snow plow I have ever seen in Texas was in Amarillo... Hmm that's some 600 miles from Austin... I just returned from town and did drive thru some snow flurries but at the moment, at my house North of Austin, the sun is shining... No need for snowshoes.. lol

lies! All Lies! It's not supposed to snow in Texas!

Oh wait, this just in, 500,000 car pile up due to road conditions in texas! J/K

Looks nice, I love a good snowfall.

That was the "northerners" down for the holidays..:D It only took 2 Texans to clean it up with their tractors. The whole mess happened on 1 ranch!!!...:D:D

When we get ice which is more frequent, it is a nightmare, folks get up and go on to work like it's no big deal. Next thing you know the news is covered with accidents.

Another thing that I don't understand , during flooding rains when the creeks and rivers overflow, even with all the warnings, you'll see several rescues and sometimes fatality's on the news when some on tried to drive through high water. Blows my mind, 2'-4' or rushing water and you'll see a vehicle floating along with people on top waiting to be saved.

a crisp 24 degrees right now..

I have you beat by 4 degrees. It's 20.1 degrees here. I'm darn glad I put all the faucet covers on, turned the heaters in my cabin to come on about 50 degrees, and opened up the cabinet doors. I didn't turn the heater on in my wellhouse yet because normally it has to be sub-freezing several days in a row for that to be a problem. This is really an early cold snap for us. This is the kind of weather I'd expect in late Jan or early Feb.

OK, I'm going to do what you guys always do to us northerners. I'm going to get my convertible out of the garage and go for a top-down drive today! :D

Ian, if you can do that today, I'd surely do it. These storms have a way of moving across the country west-to-east and up the eastern seaboard. It's probably gaining all kinds of moisture while down here and will be dumping on you within a few days. Take your pleasure while you can. You'll earn it before the winter is over.;)

Actually, it sounds like today may be the last day we can do that. There's a winter storm watch for tonight with 10-15 cm of snow tonight. Not a lot, but it'll be white tomorrow. You know what I mean! :)
