A3.135 piston question

   / A3.135 piston question #11
I just used the exact setup you described on my AD4 203 which is almost the same engine you have with one more cylinder. The oil control ring that you described is fine to use in my opinion. 1 of my four pistons had the "newer style" setup already because previous owner had it repaired some time ago and was fine until rod bearing failure and it was not the hole that had been repaired.

I'd be interested in more detail about this issue. Was it recently rebuild, original or somewhere in between?
Right, the direct injection AD3. engines had the dished piston top.

Unfortunately I am just now finding out more about one of my AD3.152's pistons than I ever expected to know. It drew at least part of #1 liner into the crankcase. Made kind of a mess. Part of the liner ended up being crunched (pulverized) at the head.

I will post more in a few days once I get my facts together. Previous owner had it "professionally rebuilt" and my guess is the liners were wrong. The liners on #2 and #3 did not rise above the block and pushed out almost by hand. I just saw your post in another thread and I think I inherited the problem you might have had. I am guessing the liners were "working" (slipping) In use and fatigued. Good catch on your part. I will post pictures in a few days.

I bought this project due to excessive oil consumption. Turns out the lands between the rings were all busted up. I just want to be sure that this scraper ring is correct.

Whoever previously rebuilt the engine probably didn't gap the rings correctly. Alternatively, the sleeves they used may have been the wrong ones.

Semi finished sleeves finished in the block are the best way to go. Finish hone the cylinder to perfection, nothing out of round. We did that to the lat Peru we rebuilt, did not add to much extra cost to the overhaul.

I will post a new thread with pictures so it is referenced under an AD3.152. I had the taller lip but the liners had to be the wrong ones or were manufactured wrong, they slide back in the block by hand. The previous owner said the rebuild was done professionally, but I am questioning that of course. Liner #2 broke off just below the lip after removal, so it had fatigued and was ready to fail. Liner #3 appears to be undamaged but it would have failed as well eventually.

FYI , the types of rings are interchangeable for car engines I have rebuilt......dunno about your specific instance, but my guess is they are okay. don-ohio :)^)

There was so,some else here that had sleeves that where too tall and come to find out they gave home the wrong ones. He did get it worked out though.
