If you have some flat concrete, raise your forks about 16 inches off the ground and then tilt them forward so the tips just lightly touch the ground. They will slide side to side a lot easier.
Sorry Mate, you misunderstood. I was talking about mounting the two individual pallet fork tynes, not sliding them back & forth. My bale spike 'option' is a single unit (also heavy) that slides into the same frame, replacing the fork tynes.
(Later edit) I've re-read your post and realised that you didn't misunderstand, you were addressing a situation within my post. Thank you for the above suggestion, I'll give it a go the next time I have the fork tynes mounted.
