Have read several posts about john deere being more expensive than other makes. No one seems to be taking into consideration resale value. Here I Alberta, Canada the difference in cost between my 1026r and a kubota bx2660 was only $1000.00. 10 years from now the 1026 will be worth at least 3 times the value of the kubota. So in the long run the 1026 is cheaper. Example: I traded my 15 yr old ( 775 hrs ) 445 with 54" mower, 54" front blade, 48" tiller on the 1026r. jd dealer gave me $6000.00 trade in. most Kubota dealers don't even want to take their own equipment back on trade, and the ones that do don't give much on trade. Also it does pay to shop around at different dealers. I have 2 jd dealers about the same distance from home, the dealer I bought from was $1553.00 cheaper for the 1026r than the other one ( which I had bought my 445 from ). My old 445 was still running like new, the reason I upgraded was because my 54" blower for that tractor blew up ( gear box ) and wasn't worth fixing. jd had an excelent sale on, about $3500.00 off the regular price for the tractor and all the attatchments I bought, so rather than buying a new blower for the old tractor , the sale price along with the great trade in price made the new tractor a great deal. Here in Canada snow blowers get overworked...lol.

John Deere will make money on the trade in and equipment. You would have made more by selling yourself. But sometimes it's more convenient to do a trade in. They will make more off the new tractor and attachments with time payments than you would believe. Plus factory incentives. They give nothing away.

Kubota dealers can sell a standalone tractor without the hoopla to a newcomer with real needs without the cost of green paint added in. Kubota owners tend to shop a little more for the good deals on attachments regardless of color. John Deere owners tend to be color coordinated. And it looks good with the cap, and cup, and shirt, hanky, ashtray, knife, dorag, serving tray, lunch box, wall hanging, bumpersticker, myriad of collectables and toys.....
Kubota will make a dollar or two off you also.

You're a perfect example of why JD can keep charging so much money and getting away with it. I'm glad you're pleased with your purchase, but don't tell me I shouldn't be with mine. I didn't read all the comments, but I'm pretty sure the first 8 scathing pages of the thread probably cover just about all of it.

Resale value was a major point of my recent negotiation with my Deere dealer but resale will be my daughter's problem, not mine, and she may chose to have me buried in the tractor. Something the Deere dealer did, however, that may eventually influence my purchase decision was downgrade every other brand. He sounded like a politician. He didn't talk about his low cost service parts or stuff like that. Kubota is toy stuff only hobby farmers would consider. Case IH and New Holland are owned by Fiat and who would want anything related to Italy. The more I have thought about it the more I am convinced Deere is out of my purchase picture.

Not completely true (at least not around here.) you will see mix and match everywhere. I have a JD tractor and a black no name disc and a yellowish king kutter grading scrapper, etc. You will see a lot of it out here, farmers don't seem to care about color here as long as it works.

Plus the kubota dealer wanted way more for their tractors than John Deere did (case is a different storey you need to pay an arm and a leg plus a little more for their version of the same tractor.)

Agree with the above poster on the color matching. While my JD is green, my rotary cutter and blade are both brown (Land Pride). My attachments will be whatever color I can find the best deal on.

All I will say is, anyone so concerned about potential resale value 10 years from now needs to just give me all the extra money they are going to "invest" on green. I'll make way more with it than they will. Just goofy if you ask me. You need to believe a tractor is worth what you are paying now and be willing to part with the cash. If so, enjoy. If not, don't count on tomorrow to justify the decisions of today.....at least not when buying a tractor.
