About to pull the trigger on a used BX2230... couple questions

There are a ton of threads on here about that exact repair. The difficulty varies by BX model. On some models, the driveshaft can be separated fairly easily. On later models, the engine has to be loosened from its mounts and pushed forward. I'm sure someone else will know which method you would need to use.

Matt.

Dag,
Here's what the fan looks like on my BX25; it's underneath the tractor, over the rear axle.

Awesome guys. I'm not afraid to dig in if needed but really don't want to have to pull the whole drive train for a simple repair if I don't have to :) Negotiation point if it is broken I guess.

I'll post some pics if I end up buying it.

Does anyone think there is a possible transmission headache with the MID + Rear PTO position? I'm not familiar with how these are set up. I'd hate to buy a headache if this is a failing transmission.

Hi guys,

I'm a total tractor newbie. I have zero experience. I'm looking to purchase a subcompact tractor for my single acre lot. It is mostly landscaped so a subcompact with turf tires is as big as I can go. I found a BX2230 with loader, mower deck, balast box, and rear blade for $8,500 locally. I will be calling to get more details like year etc...

My main concern is the rear hitch. It is a 3 point and claimed to be a Class 1 but I've read that it is possibly a Class 1 limited. How concerned should I be about this? Does anyone have definitive data on this? I can't find much info on it.

Any other advice? I'm looking to buy now, was going to buy this one until I read about the hitch so need to take a step back and decide if it is important or not.

Thanks.

Darren

I too am completely new with tractors, and I recently purchased this same tractor (BX2230) for my 2.5 acres and I love it. Never owned anything this solid. I can say that the rear hitch is a little lower than might be necessary for some class 1 attachments. I have a 48" box blade that works very well on the 3pt hitch, and with turf tires. I also have a 48" disk harrow that doesn't quite get off the ground, but I have no problem moving it around the garden plot. So I suppose my two cents is that as long as you are going to be using smaller attachments, this is a great tractor. It sounds like your application will be similar to mine, with not too much ground engaging work (scraping, some digging). I would recommend this tractor 100%.

Just got off the phone with my local Kubota repair shop. They estimate the likely cost of repairing the linkage at $1,200 assuming only the mid+rear has any damage to the linkage. $700 - $800 in labor and about $400 in parts assuming only the mid+rear gear is affected. They of course have to crack open the case and do internal work so it is kind of labor intensive.

If I can get the tractor for $7,000 or less I can afford to have the repair done. Not sure they'll take that.

Bought it... they came down to $7,000 so I jumped on it.

Thanks, I'll be the "cool kid on campus" in my neighborhood since almost nobody has anything bigger than a riding mower. I'll have to wear dark shades and wear my hat backwards to exude my "coolness". :D

Don't flash the wrong gang sign, could be a drive by shooting from the riding mower crips.
