I have been looking for an AC powered duel smoke detector with battery back up for a while and have found one!. A duel smoke alarm combines both a photoelectric and ionization sensor into a single alarm. Photoelectric sensors are more responsive to slow,smoldering fires and ionization sensors are more responsive to fast flaming fires.The combination of these two sensing technologies provide the best overall fire protection.
Manufactures have had battery operated duel sensor smoke detectors on the market for a while. I have a few in the house. But my AC units are ionization, which is OK but not the best fire safety protection. With the AC units, all 8 units are connected together, if one activates, they all activate. If the fire starts in the basement the unit in the bedroom will also alarm. The faster you know a fire is in your home the faster you can get out. The more detectors you have the earlier the the fire will be detected, And now with this new unit you have the best of both worlds in fire detection.
The Kidde duel smoke alarm is model number PI 2000. Best price I could find is at this web site for $35 each.

If your smoke detectors are more then 10 years old it may be time to change and upgrade to this type of detector. If you have a AC wired system, then this would be a great upgrade to the fire life safety of your home.
