AC unit theft

They just burn it off. My recyle place pays the same for burned or stripped wire. .

Around here.. If you burn the insulation off wire or the copper has soldered joints . It's considered #2. which = less $

A couple of years ago, it was catalatic converters. Local college (JMU) freshman cannot keep a car on campus. Thus they rent parking spaces in local parking lots. Return to their car the next day and cat converter is gone.

It's getting harder to find the concrete pads. they are going to plastic pads.

That's because they are so heavy!! People could be amazed at how much weight a 2" thick conccrete pad could weigh:D (breaking one down isn't a piece of cake either).

So bad around here at times with theft, that with new construction, contractors won't lay the outdoor unit until the day of the inspection in the city.

Had one unit where the theif was nice enough to leave the unit, but took ALL the copper out of it.

There are various alarm systems you can buy, but if someone wants something bad enough, they're going to try, and they could cause just as much damage trying to remove it without taking it.

I have an old central unit outside the house they quit working. We went to window units till we remodel then have a new unit put in. Its on a pad and is inside the dog fence. When i went on vacation I have 2 nieghbors that are lowlife metal theives. I hooked the dog pens fence charger to the housing for a surprise. I dont have any use for it now but the new AC man in town told me to keep it till he can look into it.

It's hard to level the unit with those plastic pads. They bend & give everywhere. I'll take the heavy concrete any day. Guess I'm just old school,,,I still like copper for water pipe:thumbsup:

I notice on new houses here they use a metal bracket attached to the concrete foundation wall to set the outside condenser unit on. I saw one the other day that was located on the wall at the 2nd level.

I am sure the intruder would be found inside your house when the police arrived..then if it is obivous he kicked in the door you would be fine...

Note for you to remember when you go to court, remember to make sure you clean the blood trail from outside leading into your house.

Texas Castle Doctrine. I wonder if that Denton crew may have been armed ?

Curious, the AC unit is on the OUTSIDE of the home. Not sure if it matters or not.
