You guys think this is acceptable ballast for a BX24?:D

The boss thought I was crazy for stopping and taking a picture of my "ballast" but I told her you guys like pictures. For those wondering why I loaded my tractor up like this with hay, it's too soft in some areas to get my trailer near the barn. Most of the ground is frozen except where the horses track back and forth.

Man, I hauled so much hay growing up I feel faint at the sight of it now.

Oh... I thought you were using the hay for ballast when I first looked at the picture.
As for the box blade. If it is at least 400lbs you should be OK if you have loaded tires too.

Is it really ballast if the only reason for having it on there is to move it to a new spot?? I guess you could still use the box blade with the bales piled on it, help to cut into that frozen ground:D.

Sorry TripleR.:) I just started my horse farming life 7 years ago, so I haven't hauled nearly as much as others. My shoulders really don't like being around hay either.

thavil, try 45+/- horses and 7,000+/- bales of hay:eek:

No thank you!! I'm an IT guy by day and and love my job. I give serious props to you guys that deal with that much hay but it would never be me at that level.

Hey Tod,

I had the same idea, I just had my backhoe still attached!!

We raised Black Angus cattle primarily, but also had a couple of horses and I hauled hay, chopped/picked cotton, pulled weeds, and such for spending money. I couldn't wait to get away from farm life.

Guess what I have been doing for the last few years and where I retired...

I don't own ANYTHING that eats hay though; gotta go lie down; feeling kind of faint...

Great picture (hope you lowered the FEL while moving!). I had 50 bales to move from the trailer parking area to the barn by myself. I started out with only 6 bales loaded but got more courage as I went. The final two loads had 10 bales on the tractor without using straps.

From where I parked my trailer with the hay to the barn area, if I would have used your "ballast", I would have ran into gates and fences to get there. Nice looking pic!!
