Just thought I'd drop an action photo. This is what my DK40SE gets to do the most, move round bales to feed our goat herd.

I am considering getting the tires filled, does anyone know if that will be enough ballast for 1000 to 1200 lb bales? Or should I just stick to the bales spike?

Are you going to load just the rears? Not sure how many pounds you can get, I think its around 400 for both tires, or possibly 400 for each?
Could you use a farm wagon to load several bales on and then hook up the drawbar and still spear one on the front? Just a thought.

I washed her for the first time last week, I used soap and everything!

Seems like it's one bale per goat this winter! We went through about 100 bales.

Nice pic! I don't have a rear bale spear or a dk40 - but I've got a ck27 with a QA bale spear and loaded tires. I'm able to lift and move 5x5 bales (1,000 -maybe 1,200? each). I won't lift them any higher than I really need to but it does the job well enough. I usually don't bother with any additional ballast (box blade, etc) - just spear, lift, and go.

Loaded tires on the CK30 were 400# a piece, so I'm guessing the DK tires would be a lot more, but I never asked my dealer.

I don't think you can ever have to much ballast, but loaded tires are probably close to enough for up to 1500# I drove my new DK45 into a big pile of dirt I made this spring with the pallet forks on and maxed out the loader. I had a small (for a DK45) box blade on the back that was only about 450#. The back got a little lite and the tires spun easily when I tried to back out a bit, but they stayed on the ground.

I think loaded rears would be enough for those bales. I feed down a steep slope off the road (4x4's) and have never felt "tippy" yet.

I moved 4x5' hay bales with just the rears loaded. I guess with the front ag tires they do compress a little even with just that, so it easy to feel the load on the tractor.
I have a little down slope as well to my feeding area and I've gone down it with no ballast onthe 3pth, but it gives me the creeps as tipping either way would probably not turn out well... So unless I have ballast I slide the bale on the ground for that 20' just to be safe.

If I remember right mine was 960lbs added with beet juice [rim guard] cloride would be a little more. You should be fine at 1500lbs. Without my boxblade I can handle a full bucket of Aften stone guessing 1700+ lbs. You should be close with the added length of the bale spear. CJ
One more thought, I would not have a piece of equipment without loaded tires just for the added stability.

What kind of goats do you guys raise in Missouri that require the round bales to feed them? They must be genetically altered:laughing:

When I recently bought my DK40 I was told the loaded rears weighed about 650 each.

We feed round bales to our goats as well, they can be dang picky if you don't have 2nd cut perfect hay, and I bet sometimes a 1/3 of average first cut ends up on the ground... So you don't want to be spending 10 cents a pound on hay in small squares and watch it be tramped down around the feeder!

Here is my machine. I love my Tractor. It is a DK45HST. My tires are filled but I can also move 6ft bails without a bail on back. I can stack 6ft bails only one time but that is all I need. My tractor gets a bath every now and then but yours looks good.
