I have been looking at tractors for the last couple months and to be honest I don't think many of the salesmen know how this works. I have been told so many stories of how it works from different salesmen it has me scared of it. What I read here helps me out a lot. I started looking at used tractors to get away for tier 4 but will go back to new now. I just found out I may have to have heart surgey shortly so I have decided to wait until that is over with then I will go see the Kubota dealer again. Thanks for all the info here. Ivan

Ivan, best of luck with the surgery if you end up having it. Once you're through with that, time to investigate the therapeutic benefits of shopping for a new tractor. :thumbsup:

As I understand it, there are currently two methods in use by the manufacturers to meet Final Tier 4 rules for CUTs: EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) and SCR (selective catalytic reduction). The EGR method requires a DPF (diesel particulate filter) that eventually must be replaced, while SCR requires periodic injection of a DEF (diesel emission fluid) from an on-board tank that must periodically be refilled by the user. So no free ride with either system. I looked at the Mahindra link Oldballs gave and, sure enough, it's radio silent on the DEF requirements. Clicked on 'more detail" and was surprised at their claims regarding "the other guys," i.e. other manufacturers. "HIGH DEGREE OF OPERATOR INVOLVEMENT in the DPF process. Must turn DPF on and off when parked, and turn it back on when on the field." Hmm... That's certainly not the case with my Kioti N4510HST. :rolleyes:

I was also very apprehensive about the tier 4 due to all the negative hype I heard or read here. Once I did my research and spoke to some knowledgeable folks at the Kubota dealership, many of my concerns subsided. So much so that I decided to buy new after looking used for a long time, and glad that I did. The deals were great at the time and I had the added benefit of the warranty which would not be the case used. The new L series has also solved the jerky 3 pt issue (at least on mine) and the engine seems to run smoother, quieter and with practically no smoke/smell. So far so good!

Wow I am impressed this thread has not been hit with the sky is falling crowd. Almost 300 Hours on my Tier 4 no issues, as Utopia Texas said if there was not a beep with the icon on the dash I would not know the regeneration process was going on. I have been very happy so far, time will tell in the years ahead.

Eth555 I am glad to hear that you are happy with your T4.105. I like my T4.95 thus far but don't have enough hours on it yet for my first regen.
