Ad blocking software

So it's day 2 of having AdBlock operating... TBN has shown itself to be a responsible site with 2-3 adverts blocked. But others that I go to or I've been directed to have anywhere from 7 to 25 blocked! Yes, I wrote 25. My morning 'Funnies' fix at "Go Comics" was the worse offender.

That's the reason I've employed this software. I'm sorry to deny Muhammad the revenue but these other buggers have got so greedy that they've annoyed me into using it.

I've used Firefox and adblock plus on my windows machine s for years.

I recently found 'adblock browser' for my androids. It works very good too.

OK, I figured out W7 well enough to fire up 'the fox' on another laptop and googled uBlock. Mozilla offered it as an add-on, so I installed from there. (sorry, boss)

So far so good, but I'll have some sites to visit to see how I like it. If I don't come back beefin' it's working.

If you do not like being intruded on...and you are not taking measures to prevent it...you would be amazed (shocked even) about how many different "scripts" (software programs) are running on many/most popular Internet sites...especially social media and retail sites...

If you want a glimpse as to just how many scripts (that are 95% written to gather visitor information) are running on any given page...check out the Firefox extension "NoScript" https://noscript.net/

Once familiar with the functions it can be a real eye opener for the naive...

Totally agree. I have been using NoScript for a couple of years now and have found that it can greatly reduce the amount of data that gets transmitted back and forth when browsing the web. This is important for me since all my data usage is metered and with my current plan I need to stay under 2GB/month to keep out of the next price tier.

Basically, I disable ALL scripts for a given web site and then only enable the ones that I need to in order to get the minimum amount of usability that I want from the site. For example, most news sites that I got to will, via scripts, start loading countless videos that I have no intention of viewing. I can avoid this data hit by keeping the scripts out of the "allow" list.

Up until about a year ago I was still using a dial-up connection for internet and script blocking was the only thing that made it possible. Too much data moving far too slowly made browsing anything but the most basic of web sites next to impossible.

Adblock Plus and Noscript keep me almost entirely ad-free. For now, anyway.

This is what I do also...A lot of users either just don't care or are entirely unaware of how intrusive some of the scripts can be...

For instance...why do sites like facebook run scripts on so many other web sites?...there is no need to run a script just to link or make a referral to their site...

Some of the things some of these scripts do:

search your browser history
search your cookie inventory
search your bookmark library

When facebook first started becoming so popular...one script they ran (and may still do) would scan e-mail address/contacts books (early on it was Outlook and Outlook Express mainly)...it would then have facebook send you a message telling you that some of your contacts were also facebook members and you should associate with them via facebook...

The list goes on...!

I'm a little confused. How do I disable all scripts? Which ad blocker is the least likely to try to invite itself into my computer? Is there a program I can buy that will do what I py for--stop ads--and leave it at that?

A few ads don't bother me but bunches of them at one time necessitate action.
