Adapting JIC from 3/8” to 1/2”?

This project has turned out to be more complicated than expected and I’m barely halfway through.

I simply want to connect a control valve to the quick couplers. The control valve has six 3/8” male JIC ports with 9/16”-18 thread. The six quick couplers have 3/4”-16 male JIC threads.

So simply put, I want to connect a steel line to a device with a 3/8” male JIC on one end and a device with a 1/2” male JIC on the other.

It seems like a simple process but I can’t find a way with either 1/2” or 3/8” steel lines. Is this possible.

The valve has adapters screwed into the ports, they are most likely ORB/SAE ports. So, just get different adapters.

That was my original plan and where it became complicated.

Each spool has two ports with fittings. One fitting is a standard ORB however the other is special. It appears to be an ORB with an additional groove cut into the bottom with an O-ring.

If you look carefully at the above picture in post#1, you may see deformation on the sealing surface. If I can’t achieve a seal under this condition I will deposit braze or weld and re-cut the end.

If so, you're paying for it now, LOL. Good luck. Cheap or free isn't always a good deal.

On one hand, It seems like you laugh and ridicule me for trying to be frugal and repurpose this valve.

On the other hand you seem to have my sympathy if I purchased this valve new.

Some folks will see this situation in the opposite way. There is a bigger picture here that apparently you are not privy to.

I think you made a great score on those valves, even if it will take some time to figure out a couple fittings here and there, which frankly, is a minor issue.

When I built the loader for my tractor, I also bought an used valve for around $40. It's a Rexroth valve and I believe it came out of an older Case skidsteer. It has float on one spool, work port anticavitation and relief valves, load check valves and great feathering control. You really can have fine control with it.

In my opinion, a great score for the price. I can't even imagine what it would have cost me to get a new valve with all of those features. Well beyond $500 I'm think. Heck, I don't have more than $300 on all the hoses, fittings and valve on the entire loader.

Long story short, I would have done the same as you in an heartbeat.
