Nice job on the winch. A tractor should mean less work and less chance of injury. Until I added a quick hitch I think my tractor gave me more injuries. Continue to use your brains, and less muscle. Here are a few ideas about boom poles to consider:
I thought about boom poles a lot, and decided a steel loop at the end of a boom pole is very poor. The chain grab hook has to hang open side up and can slip loose easily. Once I moved my tractor about 1/4 mile and turned around to see the chain gone. It took a vary slow walk to find the chain.
My solution, plus more, was to use a steel plate with keyhole, holes for shackles, and a permanently attached chain. One end of the chain is grab hook, other is slip hook. This chain can never fall off, and length can be adjusted in seconds.
Hi Jim,
How is your chain permanently attached? It looks like the chain in the picture is in the keyhole.
Also, how long is the chain on each leg? And, lastly, how do you "store" the chain when you re not using it? Just wrap it around the support?
I like your setup.
Thanks,
Clem
