Would you please edit your post and delete the last section? I would really appreciate it.

I'm posting all these questions to get different opinions and help me understand how things work, how they go together, and what I need to make them work.
I really appreciate everyones input.

That being said, I do like the idea of a detent valve to run the splitter but don't like the idea of a bungee cord, it sounds sorta halfassed doing it that way.

If I could buy just the detent kit to add to one of my existing spools then I would really be interested in that? Any idea if that is an option or would I need to buy a 5th spool? I'd rather not spend the money on a 5th spool right now because I need to put some cash towards hoses and fittings.

Just to clarify, all my QD fittings should be the female type right?

On the QD fittings, you should have male and female sets on the work ports to make sure the attachments connect up correctly. I believe it is usual for the male QD to be the source of the fluid, from the valve. This way, if you set up your attachments , you will always be correct.

Yes, the 3 position detent is another spool.

A good many if the 3pt log splitters use the bungee to pass fluid to operate the log splitter.

You can make your 4 spool valve a plug in valve, with QD's, but to use a log splitter , you have to unplug the 4 spool valve, and then plug in the log splitter hoses, matching male to female QD to make sure the flow is connect.

The ideal way is the 3 pos detent spool, which the log splitter and BH could use. no bungee required.

My ideal 4 spool valve would be two spools with float, one spool with 3 pos detent, and a motor spool for those motorized attachments.

I wonder if I could buy the seperate spool, and mount it somewhere entirely different downstream? I just don't know where I would fit it though. But to add it to the current valve, I don't know if it would be too wide, and stick out the other side of the fender. I'll have to do some measuring.
Although I keep getting confused on how I want to eventually do everything, I have definitely learned a lot and at least understand most of the plumbing.

One thing I'm not positive on, is where do I 'tee' in the "OUT" hose of the new valve? Does it tee into the same hose as the PB goes to? If so, why can't I simply tee those two hoses together, a few inches downstream of the valve?

All out or return hoses can be teed together as long as the back pressure is minimal.

From what you have said, the PB of the new valve will/should connect to the 3pt. The OUT/return will connect to the tank.

Using the log splitter, the OUT will return to the new valve through one of the QD's.

If you are using any PB valve, if it is used in line and not the last valve, then all flow goes in the IN port and flows out the PB port. If the valve with PB is the last valve in the circuit, then the out and the PB can be tied together since they both are going to tank.

Why not replace one of the spools with a detent spool.

Piston, I believe that you can purchase the detent kit to use on one of your existing spools. That way would be the least costly ($40?) and you would not be taking up any more width on the fender.

J.J.,

Thank you for that clarification; I'm quite relieved as I've been planning to do exactly what I thought you might be warning against.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go that route since it is a cheap alternative and also won't make the valve any wider.

Do you happen to know what diameter hose I should be using for that valve? I believe I read that SAe #8 is 1/2" and SAE #10 is 5/8" but does that mean I use that size hose?

Piston,

I have the W.R. Long solenoid kit installed. I did it in late 2007 and am sure that it came in at under $500. including the optional bulkhead QC plate.

Everything was designed for my Kubota model - the new valve tucked neatly under the loader valve and the supplied mount installed easily. The only parts of the installation for which I had a choice to make were whether to paint the mount to match tha tractor's orange and whether to weld the bulkhead mounting plate to the loader. As I recall the bulkhead plate could be installed to a couple of bolts that are already part of the loader or be welded onto the tubular support to put the quick connects in a neat and accessible location.

I both painted and welded resulting in an installation that a person would need to know the tractor fairly well to realize that my grapple system is not a factory installed option.

I'd pay the higher price today if I were doing it again, knowing what I now know.

No I don't think that will work for the spool he bought, the one you listed is for "WOLVERINE MB series valve" like the one I have... it is smaller and more compact than the one he got.

You are right and I am wrong.

What Piston needs, if he wants a detent spool is the SVWIBBI $82. to replace one of the other spools.
