adding a tubocharger

It´s better to buy a more powerful unit, than to modify the existing unit. As said before, a turbo will exert more stress on the engine parts, and that brings up some issues. The diesel engine, is build strong, so it is not that easy to break one by adding a turbo. But, you must know that, if you're mounting a turbo, you will have increased wear and tear on the engine, clutch and transmission.

Also, it would be advised to modify injection timing and so on, because, a turbocharged engine develops it's peak power and torque at a different rpm than a non-turbocharged engine.

It can be done, but the cost to do it properly, and to have substantial gain in HP and better fuel efficiency, it will cost quite a bit.

IMO, I think you're better off with the tractor as it is.

A Real Turbo diesel will have jets fitted to the bottom of the block to spray oil into special ports on the bottom of the pistons. To help with heat..as In Mercedes engine designs, I have noticed these in a few gas turbo engine. But if you have an engine in good condition and monitor like described above, you would have one to brag on.You should use a wastegate of some type to prevent overpressure..

i have a cx 70 with a perkins 268 engine .the larger ones with turbo's are a perkins 244.my dealer is unsure if the parts off a 244 will fit the 268.i would hate to order them if they do not fit.
Am i correct that Perkins names its engines after the cubic inch displacement ?? if so, the 268 would be 4.4 liter, which is enough to put out 80 to 85hp without a turbo. In fact Perkins sold these engines also in that configuration off the factory. Just turn the fuel pump up a bit, and forget about the turbo.

just turning up the fuel will also cause high EGT's. by adding the turbo you are increasing the air charge to burn the additional fuel. a turbo with mild boost will make more power and run cooler than just turning up the fuel.

Some 4 cylinders jump up 40 hp with the turbo..higher with an aftercooler for the air breather.

a c70 is 60 pto horsepower and a cx105 is 85 pto horsepower.these tractors are basically the same except for the engines, even the injector pumps and radiators are the same.i can probably turn the pump up 15% without turning it into a fuel hog.i would like a little more power.any ideas?

I know that the guys who own non turbo Toyota diesel powered landcruisers are continually turbocharging the various models. They add turbos from new manufacture or they add ones they get from junkyard Chrysler models I can't name off the top of my head.

Here's a place in Australia that seems to have a going business in doing tractor and other concersions: Ray Hall Turbocharging - Custom diesel turbocharger installations

Usually the amount of boost is variable one way or another, and using low levels can increase power and fuel milage without doing damage to a non-turbo ready engine. If it's overdone a turbo can break most any engine.

Some engines will take a bolt on turbo just fine just have to do your homework on the engine in question and dont overdo it. We had a brand new ford 6610 in 1983 which went porous at 1900 hrs (2 years old) so when the new motor went in we ran it to 1000 hrs dropped a turbo on it and turned the pump up to dyno 92hp at the pto and sold it a few years ago with 7200hrs with no trouble .

Seemed a far more common thing to do in those days . Favourite models like Ford 7810/8210/7840...Fiat 100/90 and winner 100...JD3050..IH 956...There were probably more 7840 turbo's around at one point than natural ones .

The CX70 has the Perkins 1004.42 which is a low emission version of the 1004 series. There are Turbo 1004.42 and 1004.40T models referenced by Google in the European market. Just wanted to share that if it helps you find what you're looking for.

I'm considering adding a turbo to my 903.27 as they too were offered in that configuration from the factory. Mine is 48/45hp and the 903.27T as found on the CX60 is 64/56.5hp tested. That's not so much of a boost that I would get nervous about damaging anything. I want a turbo for the noise reduction, mainly.
