Jinma JM-284LE
My Jinma 284LE has a Koyker 160 FEL on it and I want to add a grapple to the front. The joystick control has a power beyond port available, but I don't have the proper plug for it, and not sure if I can get it separately. It is supposedly an open center valve.
Can I just tee in to the return line going to the three point/steering splitter with another open center valve, or do I need the power beyond port? Also, should I be using an open center valve for the grapple?
I have a fairly good idea of the differences in open center versus closed center, but not fully aware of my best option. I though with an open center valve, that the hydraulics would not hold any pressure, in which case the cylinders would let the bucket drop.
Thanks, Rick

Usually...when a loader is installed...the pressure is supplied via the 3PH line...then the Power Beyond port is used to re-supply pressure to the 3PH...

in the case above...the new valve (with PB) gets pressure from the PB port on the FEL valve...then the PB port on the new valve goes back to the 3PH...

Only low pressure /return /tank lines can be 'T'ed...

Trying to make sure I understand this correctly. My tractor has a pump off the engine that feeds directly to the FEL, then to the splitter which feeds the steering and the 3ph. Wouldn't the line feeding the splitter off of the FEL be something I can tap in to, since it is essentially feeding other control valves in series? Or do I still need to use the power beyond port of the FEL valve? I do know the valve i would need would have to have it own relief valve to make this work. And, should it be open center also, to feed the grapple?

Sorry I can't answer the question about where a pressure line directly feeds more than one valve...

If there is a pressure line going to the FEL valve (from a pump) the only way I know of to feed a second valve is via a power beyond port...in most open center systems that I am familiar with you cannot 'T' a pressure line...

if the system is open center typically all valves are open center...

FWIW...I have a older kubota with a factory FEL...the PB port on the FEL valve feeds a second valve for a grapple...the PB port on the grapple valve feeds the 3PH....

I agree with all of that.

The existing loader valve SHOULD have the proper power beyond sleeve installed. It should have been done that way at the start. Unfortunately, not all people installing loaders and related valves understand (or even care) about that. I've done this many many times and never install a series plumbed open center valve without the proper fittings.

It's totally up to you of course, do it as you wish. If it were me, I'd be looking for a sleeve to fit the valve, whatever that takes.

Do you have rear remotes?

When you operate your loader with a control all the way do you lose power steering?
If so is there another line leaving your existing valve going to the reservoir?

If you can answer yes then the line going to your splitter is a power beyond line from the FEL valve and yes you can series into another valves "P" port with that valve having a power beyond port to feed your existing splitter and a return to tank line from the "T" port of the new valve.

I do not have rear remotes on this tractor. Wish I did.
The steering does shut down if I try and use the FEL, so I would assume it has a power beyond port sleeve installed, but the picture I see of it with it installed, does not look like what I have. I think. Is the power beyond sleeve internal? By the picture for a replacement valve, it looks as if it sticks up above the valve body.

If your valve has a sleeve installed it will have three lines connecting it to the tractor systems. If it has only two, then power beyond is not in play.
