That is the same engine I have on my Case trencher and BH.
How is it ? I picked this machine up in November to replace my Oliver 550 for digging/manure duty. The first engine lost all compression. I picked up a very low hour used vh4d for $300. I had to swap the top mount distributor and a few misc things, and did a pertronix ignition. I set the timing today to spec (23*) and it runs pretty good. I had to rebuild all the throttle linkage to the foot throttle. It's a little weird having a foot throttle rather than a governor, but that is how it was built.
How is yours set up?
Check out that side plug, that may save you a lot of work, as you just add the new valve in series. You have to consider priority when using hyd valves, as the first valve up stream might take all the fluid.
So if that plug is for PB, I hook it up to the in side of the new valve, and then move the tank from the old valve to the new valve, correct?
I wish I knew more about hydraulic systems.
I do have the service manuals and specs in the books, but the diagrams don't tell me much. perhaps I should scan them. I did find out that the pump is actually 3 pumps, each port is 15 GPM, and I think it said 3,000 psi. Two for the drive wheels, and one shared for the loader.
My only complaint about this machine, other than the slightly odd foot throttle, is the foot brake. Apparently this was built before they figured out how to make it auto stop (like a bobcat). It has some big 1 ton truck size drum brakes, a master cylinder, etc. WHen I got the machine the master was junk, so I found a clark forklift master new for like $40 online. It was almost identical. All I had to do was oval out one of the mounting holes on my drill press and it bolted right up.
