Any suggestions on how to add lights to a ROPS. I'd like them as high as possible (on top of ROPS). They have to be removable, as they will get smached working in the woods.

Hi...

To avoid the smacking & need to remove 'em... mount the lights so their tops are below the top of the ROPS... either high up on the vertical side rails (mounded mine here)... or under the horizontal top rail...

I mounted 2 front & 2 rear lights directly to the vertical ROPS by drilling small holes for self-tapping screws... and I ran the feed wires inside the hollow ROPS and exited them thru small holes just below the lights... the holes are small so the ROPS integrity is still there...

Brace yourself....the gang of "thou shalt not touch thy ROPS" folks will be visiting soon.

Here's what I did. My ROPS is the folding type which made things easy. Remove the top, drilled ( 3 ) 3/8" holes at proper spacing, welded a 5/16" nut over each hole, painted and re-installed. To mount the lights, I just used the light bracket, a 5/16" bolt threaded right into the nut with a lock washer. The excess thread end just goes right through into the ROPS. I used another hole, a rubber grommet and some loom wrap to wire them.

Mine are installed under the cross beam. Plenty of height.

If I can't come up with an easy way to make them detachable, I plan to mount them under the ROPS (or sides). I work in the woods a lot and even mounted underneath they will get busted. Also the higher up I can get them the less shadow from the bucket.

Thanks,

Bob

When the gang of "thou shalt not touch thy ROPS" folks make an appropriate financial contribution, they can have a say.

Thanks for the idea.

I used two pieces of Angle iron with two bolts to pinch the ROPS. Then two holes for the lights (One forward and rearword). I put them on the side.

I drilled mine too. Just thought I'd throw that in before this thread heats up.

Yes, my manual says not to. But, based on years of tinkering, I took the risk.

I also work in the woods and I am in the process of mounting a bracket made out of a piece of angle iron to the back of the ROPS so that it looks like an "L" on the back of the cross bar of the ROPS. The lights are then to be hung from the bottom of the "L" which puts them slightly BEHIND the leading edge of the ROPS and slightly below it as well. And either JB Weld or Automotive Epoxy will be used to hold the angle iron bracket.

My lights are YELLOW fog lights. My HOPE is that the yellow lights won't attract too many bugs???

The whole thing is a work in progress, I am planning on posting pictures when it is complete, but finding Saturday's to work on it is becoming hard to do as getting things ready for winter are consuming a lot of time.

Be nice Bob, the nay-sayers offer plenty of good advice. It's always good to hear all the arguments and reasonings. Which reminds me, there are lots of good threads on this subject. I would try searching for lights and ROPS.

By the way, I drilled into the bracket, not into the ROPS, so I have the ability to replace broken lights, but still have the original integrety of the ROPS.
