Adding lights to ROPS

Walmart has a 55 watt utility light with a magnetic base and a cord with a power plug (cigarette lighter type) for all of $15.00 or so.
Normally $19,9?. bought one on clearance a couple of weeks ago for $10. It puts out more light than I though that it would.

The magnets on mine must be weak. The 'Bota bounced them off....................chim

I just mounted a pair under the top of my ROPS using a 1"x3" piece of oak (an idea I read here on TBN). I used 2" square U bolts, cut 2 blocks of the oak for spacers, and ran the wire up the back side of the folding ROPS. Be careful though, the hinge point on the ROPS provides one of the best wire cutters you can ask for /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. I used longer bolts for the mounting brackets so I could place extra washers to allow the lights to be turned forward or backward, whether the ROPS is up or folded down. I also used the plug in type solderless connectors, so all I have to do is remove two U bolts and unplug, the whole light bar is off. The U bolts also served as a close point for the ground wires.

All I have left is to put a switch in the line. The dealer told me the auxiliary wire by the tail lights of my TC24D was part of the headlight circuit, which I took to mean it was through the switch. Nope - it's hot all the time the key is on. Having them independent is better anyway, I find the headlights to be a pain when the FEL is on.

Removable lights...

How about using the detachable brackets made for the SMV signs ?

One bracket is permanently mounted to the tractor... the other to the light... the bracket on the light slides into the one on the tractor...

Can't find a picture of one... there only a couple $ each at tractor supply retailers...

Thanks folks,

I know I'd get some good ideas. The magnets or the SMV brackets look like the way to go.

Murph,

Are "magnetic grounds" the same as what Harbor calls "pull magnets"? If so, what size pull do you recommend, 100, 150 or 200 lbs? I would think 100 lbs. would be more than adequate.

Here are a couple of pictures of the lights I mounted on my Kubota B2910. They are 20-watt fog lights that work very well. I used ½” aluminum plate to mount the lights.
The mounting is strong enough to pull low hanging branches out of trees without any damage to the lights. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have to add my 2 cents. I have installed lights off a skidsteer. I added some bright flashing lights so I can be seen on the roads as I plow with this machine in the winter. See pics the lights were not completly installed in thes pictures I still had to wire them but they are done now.
