Adding lights to ROPS

/ Adding lights to ROPS #11
I am afraid the financial contribution will be when or if the tractor is ever traded. From what I understand the dealer will deduct the price of a new ROPS to replace the one that was modified. What about it Art?

And when I discussed all this with my dealer, he told me to drill into the ROPS.

Good idea! I won't have to offend the "do not touch crowd."

Thanks,

I generally believe in following the manual, which has an absolute prohibition, but the way I see it is there's nuthin' wrong with cuttin', drillin', weldin', etc. as long as you know and understand that you ain't gonn sue the manufacturer and win if you turn it over and the ROPS collapses, you may (or may not) have to replace the ROPS if or when you trade it in or sell it, and there's the possibility of being liable yourself if you sell it and the new owner turns it over and gets hurt because of a modified ROPS.

Now I figure there's only a slight possibility of any of those bad things happening, but there's still the possibility, so I would never recommend to anyone else that they do those things . . . but, I also once drilled four quarter inch holes in one of my tractor's ROPS. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Brace yourself....the gang of "thou shalt not touch thy ROPS" folks will be visiting soon.

Just to be very clear....the statement made previously was meant to shed a bit of humor on a subject that has become quite heated in the past.

To drill or not to drill...its a personal choice !!

I bought two magnetic grounds and two lights from Harbor Freight. I mounted the lights to the magnetic grounds and now I can put the lights under the ROPS or on top of the ROPS. I can face them forward for loader work and and can face them back wards for other work. I can face one forward and I can face one backwards if I wish. I can even blow out my main fuse on the tractor if everything comes on at the same time along with the glow plugs. What I am saying is the magnetic grounding blocks make it easy.

And I did not re-shape or alter my ROPS at all

Ahh Murph, live on the edge a little bit . . . go ahead an glue something to the ROPS . . . just so you can tell your grandkids the story someday! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Personally, I live on hills, I'm not drilling into my ROPS because I am afraid of rolling over. IF I lived on flat land, I would probably drill into it. But I would also accept that risk. As it is, I believe one day I will lay one of my tractors on its side, I've come too darn close several times. I feel better when I drive the new equipment because of things like seatbelts and ROPS, and when I play with the antiques I stay on the flat parts of the property!

Might want to use the appropriate Instant Face to indicate humor. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I mounted my lights to an"L" shaped piece off the ROP, ,,first time out bushhogg'n , I wiped out one light and mowed it ... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif....Redesign now calls for 5" Square .25" wall 5" wide , will drill and mount new lights inside square and rewire and mount ..should be good to go ...Live and learn it's only money .. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Walmart has a 55 watt utility light with a magnetic base and a cord with a power plug (cigarette lighter type) for all of $15.00 or so. Holds on pretty good to the ROPS either on the top or underneath.
