Adding my own power beyond John Deere 4100 compact

refresh... this happened after raising the tractor up with the bucket to air up the front tires. Prior to that the last oil change was in July. Last oil check was Feb prior to a snow. Everything was fine then. Which is why I am guessing..stopped up path ways or oil pump.. it started right after raising it up...while at idle which we have done 100's of times since before 2000. And the degree is no more than our front yard.

Originally I had gone by what the owners manual says. It listed 2.8 qts and that was way too much. Shop manual lists 2.3qts. in the engine section and just 2 qts pretty much puts it to the high line on the dipstick for me. Maybe take an xtra 8 oz for that little filter. Dont quite understand the discrepencies.

well bollocks.... finally got time to look at the 4100 in detail...Hydraulic fluid was as black as the oil...which means it is going to the dealer to have that seal replaced...hate to imagine the cost on that! :/

J.J. I pulled the pump..easy enough..but as far as I can tell...both the engine side and the pump side have a sealed bearing. My guess is it's the pumped side bearing and seal that's went..but looking at the deere parts sight..not seeing it...any ideas?

On something like a pump seal/bearing, and you can't turn the pump to see if it is leaking, I would take it to a hyd shop and have them put the pump on the test bench and fully check it out.

Pumps are expensive if you are just guessing at the problem.

ok Gents... now I am worried.. did a full break down of the pump. Replaced the seal we felt was bad. Put it all back together.. new fluids, filters. Loaded enough fluids to be just below the line..cranked up. ran for a minute. Shut down to check levels. added what was needed ( filling up the filters with the 1 minute run) sealed it up. Cranked up..waited 2 mins. attempted to raise rear 3pt.. nothing..tried a few more times thinking air pocket. Nothing. Used foot petals to move forward/reverse 2ft each way..then GUSH...a mix of engine oil and hydraulic fluid starts pouring out the valve cover vent hose. Worse then before. Forced myself to walk away from it. Now I am wondering how can I confirm which way the seal should have been inserted. My Pops took the original out and is now not sure which way it should have gone in.

I installed a power beyond kit on my John Deere 4100 and found out while doing so that the main adaptor plate was already in place. I bought some different hoses so I'm left with most of a factory power beyond kit for a JD 4100 if anyone is interested. Message me if you would want the kit parts and installation instructions.
