Anyone ever use one of these units in this link called a "torque generator".

4.7 CU IN STEERING VALVE (TORQUE GENERATOR)

I was wondering how much it really did assist in the steering effort? A lot or just a little bit?

I am going to try and retro fit power steering to a Kubota b7300. I am figuring I have 3 directions to go in;

The above torque generator that fits inline with the steering column IF I have room to fit it.

A steering valve and cylinder using the steering valve below.

4.5 CU IN CHAR-LYNN 211-1007 NLR STEERING VALVE

Or some sort of assist steering mounted inline with the drag link.

I did a lot of searching on the web, and there are a lot of threads were people were getting the drag link type kits from a website called "powersteeringkit.com. But that site seems to be gone or moved and I can't find it. I was thinking I could use the system off a late 70's Ford Granada, they had the drag link assist system with the separate cylinder. I would just have to retro fit the linkage joints to mount it and the cylinder.

It's not going to be cheap whichever way I go. There is a guy who has a site with a kit just for the b7300, bolts right in and everything. But he wants $1200 for it. I am sure it's worth it, figuring what the hydraulics cost and the time he puts into making it all fit up, but I am thinking I can "build it myself" a little bit cheaper.

I have a char-lynn steering valve and a steering shaft, but the shaft is the short one. I would sell for $300.00 + shipping. I well check the #'s on it if interested. I think it's like the one you are looking at.

any of your neighbors or any farm salvage yards. consider an old combine, most had a steering motor, and a hydraulic cylinder on the axel

We had forklifts with torque amplifiers for steering. Didn't like them. Turned the wheel about 15* -20* before the hydraulic fluid started to flow. And they would only turn so fast. Could just be the electric pump couldn't keep up.

If I were you, I would look for a ram type of steering system the 4X4 people use on their off road builds.

PM the numbers for me please. See if you have the specs on the shaft also, the length and the diameter and if it's splined or keyed. Thanks.

I looked that number up on that valve, and that's a very good deal on it, and that's not even figuring the the cost of the steering column. I appreciate the offer and I did some more figuring, and I think I am going in a different direction on it. So if anyone else wants a good deal on a steering valve you had better get it, those things are expensive.

I found out a long time ago that I can buy it for $50.00 at WalMart, but I can build it myself for a hundred. He had to purchase the hydraulics, but he also did the research on which parts worked most efficiently on that tractor. Good luck.
