I have a 1988 model 1720, that never had remotes installed. On the right side under the floor pan is a Hydraulic Manifold Block. It has 3 ports, Inlet, Outlet and Return. There is also a control screw with a letter O on one side and S onthe other. According to the manual you turn this screw to either O or S to operate either FEL or such, or to the other position for Lift Linkage operation. Does this mean I can operate one or the other but not the both without turning this control screw? I assume all I have to do is install hydrualic lines into these ports as at the present time they are plugged and run the hose to a set of remote QD's, however I don't fully understand which line would go where to relationship of the manifold and cylinder. I understand the Outlet, (would go to supply pressure to control valve ?) what about the Inlet port? I assume the Return would be returning from a cylinder?

Manual also states the tractor can use a single or double spool control valve, so would I need to use a normally open or closed spool control valve. FWIR an Open spool control valve circulates fluid until its diverted by the valve to the cylinder. A Closed allows hydraulic presure to build and uses a relief valve to maintain a constant ready to use pressure. I would assume the tractor needs a Open type control valve. What I am looking to do is simply add a set of QD's to the tractor, which I can plug other hydraulics into (mainly a cylinder or motor) and operate from a control lever, and from the way I interpret the manual and diagram, all I really need to do is buy the hydraulic hose and QD's and a control valve, but what goes where is confusing me, as is the operation of the manifold control screw.

Any help greatly appreciated.

If you use a open center valve as you should, turn the screw and leave it, you only would turn the screw back if you had only quick couplers, as with a front end loader set up that you could unhook from, then you would turn the screw back when unhooked, or the hydraulic would "dead-end" and it's goodbye hydro pump

That block and screw you are refering to is normally used for the backhoe for the power beyond hydraulics. The Rear remote is normally hooked to a block under the seat housing there is a plate behind your right leg that comes of and a valve section is added and the plate put back on. I have seen people use the power beyond you are talking about for remotes but it generally makes a lot of hose mess to be caught up and dragged around.`

When I made this original post I had wanted to add remotes, but after getting a price for just the main parts alone, from two Ford dealers, I think it will have to be forgotten. They want close to $700.00 for that so called special valve or block that attaches under the operators platform that taps off the hydraulics, and another $500.00 for a control valve, then add in the hard lines, hoses and QD's, my goodness, there is just no way. I think in the end what I will wind up doing is buying a PTO driven hyd pump, add my own control valve and make my own resevoir. I already have materials to make a res, and can get a 3 spool open center or closed valve for under $150.00, and hoses and QD's wil run me less than $50.00. As for mounting, the control valve, that should not be a problem, would use square tube steel, and mount the resivoir on the back above the 3 point or on the side. You could probably double the figure for labor if they were to install the items. There is just no way these parts are woprth that kind of money. HAs anyone ever priced a clutch assembly for a 1720.Dealers here want $1500+ for just the clutch / pressure plate assembly. Local rebuilder will redo the old one for about half that amount. These business know when they have you by the cod sack.

the rear remote for your tractor is part number sba340002251 list price 431.00 after installing this go to your local hydraulic house and get a splitter for 75.00 and mount it on your fender 4 couplers 80.00 misc hose 20.00. this will not be pretty but very efective. your dealers are grabbing you big time. As for the double clutch assembly the part number is sba320040483 and list price is 896.00 I can not believe they are charging you these prices.. way too much
