Additives

I have been using outboard 2 stroke oil for my chainsaw, and the saw doesn't seem to like it. Anyone else notice this? This leads me to the second question (which Clemsonfor may have just answered): can I put the 2 gallons of 50:1 gas/oil mixture in my truck's tank when I fill up to dilute it safely?

I have a 1980 chevy k10, I would dump it all day long in my truck, even in my 1990 ranger.
I am my own mechanic, I don't care if I get it in there, all your going to do is foul your plugs a bit faster and your O2 sensors but my vehicles are not going to be hurt by that tiny amout of oil and one does not even have an O2 sensor.
And don't use water cooled outboard oil in your air cooled saw. The water cooled oil is designed to burn off at lower combustion and engine temps due to running cooler, if you run it in your saw it burns off faster. If you go the other way around you will get carbon fouling in an outboard.

I just put a couple gallons of the 40:1 mix in the 2000 town car last week when I moved to the 50:1 mix for better performance.

So if I am understanding this and following along, I can use water-cooled 2 cycle oil in my YM 2000. Now for the important part, what would be the ounces to gallon ratio to use? My son bought some 2 cycle oil, for a merc cruiser outboard, and mixed it with gas for Stihl chainsaw. It ran for about 90 seconds, died, cooled off (me), and tried to start it. I waas smart enough to figure wrong type of 2 cyle oil, but did not have the techincal knowledge as to why. Now by reading these posts, have a great deal of knowledge of this. I appreciate all the information I've learned by reading these posts. Thanks for the great info! Take care all.

The old outboards smoked some running 20:1. So I wouldn't exceed that by very much.

1 gallon = 128 oz; 1/20 of that would be 6.4 ounces per gallon.

Maybe round up to 8 oz/gallon = 1 quart in 4 gallons, if you are trying to get rid of the stuff.

Anybody remember the old Saabs? I couldn't believe it when I saw an owner start refueling by pouring a quart of motor oil into the fuel filler. (2-cycle).

I add 4 oz to 5 gallons of diesel

Follow the mix like there saying to save money, but you wont hurt anything by dumping a qt into 5 gallons and running it like that in these old deisels. Deisel is oil after all. You can put oil into it to get rid of it.

Has anyone used Howes meaner power kleaner? I have heard some very good things about it, and I'm inclined to believe those things after my experience with Howes lubricator/penetrating oil.

I also used Sea Foam on a Husky chainsaw that was running real bad. It seemed like the carburetor needed adjustment, but ten minutes or less of running with Sea Foam in the tank, it ran like new. Nice product!!
