Not strictly rural living, but something many older folks are using.

We're about to pull the trigger on a split king (side x side Twin XL) adjustable bed base(s).

Does anyone have any experience with these?

A lot like equipment, to get the features we want, we get to pay for ones we don't.

Here's what we're looking for:
head and foot elevation,
pillow tilt (top 8 inches or so can tip forward)
wall hugging (slides the bed back as it sits up so you can still reach the night stand)
zero clearance (can sit atop a platform bed and still function)
2+ programmable favorite settings

Nice to have- adjustable lumbar support

Added, not needed: massage, lights, USB

Brands:
Leggett and Platt
Sven and Son
iDealbed

Experience with the brands (or others we've missed)? Other things to look for?

Thanks, TBN!

FWIW: We bought an iDealBed for my folks a while back. They liked it. It was straightforward to take apart move and reassemble, at least for anyone who knows one end of a screwdriver/socket wrench from the other. It was a basic model with just a remote, that I don't think they seem to make any more.

Not hospital bed quality by any means, but a very different price point.

All the best, Peter

Wife and I have the select comfort split king bed. Heads raise independently bottom raises as a single unit. LOVE the independent heads, wish the bottoms were like that. So you are on the right track.

THis is our second select comfort. The first was did not have an adjustable base. The remote quit working on that even though it was waaaay out of warranty. I was not expecting them to be much help, I just wanted to buy the remote. That had discontinued that model several years before. Instead for the price of a new remote (I think it was $79) they sent me a new pump, remotes, lines the whole works to replace it all. WOW I was floored, and happy. When we sold the river house where I had moved it to we gave it to our son who still uses it today. That bed is somewhere around 20 ish years old.

The second bed we have now doesn't have a neat feature I like the bluetooth/phone remote capability. But since we paid about $10k for it in 17, not planning to change anything about it until the remote does or something else drastic happens.

They have been very reliable.

We bought one of those because the wife need it for the head elevation. I always hated it because I would roll over and fall into the canyon between the two mattresses. This week I disassembled it and took it to the spare room and brought back the old non adjustable bed to my room. I love having a bed with a big flat mattress. But that’s just my preference. The expensive adjustable bed now resides in the guest room.

We have two SleepNumber Kings. Split, all adjustable firmness, head and feet. No climate controls.

Best beds we have ever had. I like the adjustable firmness, depending on the day, may deflate or inflate accordingly due to comfort.

Good luck in your search.

+1 on the SleepNumber beds. With other mattresses, I've had issues where it develops a sag at butt level, and that triggers back issues for me.

We've had the SleepNumbers for quite a while now, and they are still like new.

I love my Tempur-Pedic mattress. No saging ever. They aren’t cheap, but no more back issues after buying it.

Following with no suggestions... I've developed reflux issues despite barely eating any food, looks like I need to elevate my upper... meanwhile my wife needs to elevate her lower for completely different reasons.

I have a very slight elevation on upper, it's not flat. The wife has a notable elevation on upper.

Lower portions, feet, hardly get used.

Thanks for the input! Wife vetoed sleep number early on. She didn't want an 'inflatable' bed. Not worth the argument for me!

We just ordered the Leggett and Platt base with all of the features we want. $2800.

Two different mattresses. She got a Nectar Ultra Hybrid. I got a Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Firm. We liked the Tempurs, OK, but not for 4X the price. Hers lists for 1800, but she got a deal from a local guy. Mine was around $1100.

I relax in bed, so many adjustments are for me. Between gout, back and arthritis issues, I like having options. She gets reflux and needs to elevate head a bit.

J, I hear you. Its probably going to be an "adjustment" for her as she drifts to the middle, while I stay on my own side. Current is a queen, so we gain 8 inches of width.

We bought the split king( twin xl on each side). Moves all the ways and has massage. The wife uses the different positions depending upon how she is feeling and really likes the “zero gravity “ position. I raise the head sometimes to read but prefer to sleep flat. My side has a firmer mattress than her side.
If I was to buy the bed again, I would just get a nonmoving frame for my side.

Update:

My mattress arrived: Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Firm. ~$1100. It has to air out a bit as the new foam smells a bit.

Frames haven't arrived but great CS so far from the seller (synergy health out of Greensboro, NC). Guy has called and emailed to make sure I know where it is. Should be here next week. It's now in Houston at their shipping agent.

Wife got a great deal on her Nectar Ultra Hybrid. MSRP is $1800, but she got it and a recliner for $1300. Local store, hasn't been clear on when it will get here. Maybe next week.

We told them we aren't in a rush.

Beds were delivered today. Coincidentally, wife's mattress came in, too.

Testing mine out now. My remote has one button that doesn't work. The function works through the App. I'll see how they handle the feedback.

I found Saatva before they became popular. We bought the set and it is unbelievable the difference it has made in my sleep. We've tried them all and this is by far the best bed I've ever laid on. Love the adjustable racks as well. They won't let you smell one for 2 grand though. I think one of the issues with my back is spending my life sleeping on crappy beds.
