I would neaver set front lower than rear.you want to cut level.
Woods and Bush Hog recommend setting the front of the deck 1-2" lower then the rear. That "relieves" the blade so it won't cost horsepower by dragging on the cut grass tops. All riding lawnmower decks come from the factory set lower in the front as well. Try it, it really gives you a power boost,
