Adjusting Wheel WIdth?

When faced with how to pull and install a 600+ lb wheel single handedly I reached for my ATV/Motorcycle jack and two straps. It worked perfectly! Backed the whole wheel out from the tractor and rolled it right back into place onto the wheel alignment studs after I got the rear remotes installed.

Somedays I just get lucky. :)

All good if you have a concrete floor. Not so good on gravel or dirt. Mine are a lot bigger than yours are as well.

My local tractor tire shop charges $95+supplies for a service call with their boom truck. I had them out yesterday. The operator was a 20 yr old, he had both rears off, set out on the centers, then filled with washer fluid in 1 hr. He worked the last 15 minutes in rain.
My involvement was observing.

Before I forget this important note: In preparation, put your tractor in neutral so you can position the hub/bolts/ studs to match the wheel on the re-install.

I change my wheels in the spring and fall. Woodsie tractor to lawn mower. I do it in my garage on a concrete floor. The rears are 17.5L - 24's. They are loaded with beet juice/ Rim Guard, 540 lbs per a chart plus 212 lbs of wheel weights, so my estimate including the tire and wheel is 850 lbs.

I modified a engine stand for this operation and made a special spreader bar. This would not work on a similar tractor with ag tires, no fender clearance. I use a 4 ton floor jack and 6 ton jack stands.

I also made special carriers for the wheels/ last year. In the past I would stand them up and lay them down using my car lift. A lot of extra grunt work by myself.

Also when the tires were just filled and no wheel weights they would stand up vertically. Once I added the wheel weights they would stand up at about a 20 deg. angle which seemed to make them harder to handle.

I widened my tires last year. They are two piece rims and I think there are four options on how wide I could make them. Somebody commenting on my video said that I was wrong, and there are 8 different widths.

I made them as wide as I could, which gave me an overall width that is 11 inches wider then how it was delivered. For me, the extra width made a huge difference when mowing around my pond. The slope in some areas was just a bit terrifying.

I have no idea what my tires weigh. I know they are too heavy to lift. I jacked my axle up so the tires where just barely touching the ground. Then I took them off, unbolted the rims, then bolted them back together at the widest position. Then I rolled them to the opposite side of the tractor and put them back on. I had to adjust the jack on each side to get it just right, and when the bolts where lined up with the rims, I installed the lug nuts and tightened them up.

The video shows how easy it was. I spent more time thinking of what might happen, and everything that could go wrong, then actually getting it done.

I'd like to adjust my wheel width a little wider on my YT359 just for stability on my hilly property. I can figure out the wheel adjustment, but how do you folks mount/unmount a rear wheel filled with ballast? I've got a 2 post lift, just not sure how I'd get a 600+ lb tire back on the tractor.
I just pulled the filled turf tire off the B2601 to gain access while installing a set of rear remotes. It's not really a big tire, but I told the wife, "If it goes down, I'm gonna need one of the other tractors to get it back up."

I did the the work on the flattest land I have out front of the shop. I use scraps of plywood , 1 inch boards, and short lengths of 2x4 to jig the tire off and back on to the axle stubs.

Yep, also the same when removing it. After removing the lug bolts/nuts just push and pull it to walk it off the studs and out to where you can lean it up to continue the work. I use the front wheel to hold the rears when I'm doing so.
Here is my Branson 8050 with both rears and the center sections off in preparation to swap the centers in from being in the outer position. Both of the rear tires are leaning up against the front tires.

I like the jack stands, and use mine always, but it is sort of scary to have the back end supported by a single bottle jack while knowing the front axle is on a pivot pin
