Very good point, PISTON,,
Lets take a look at that first picture, and remove the tractor from it....
Now, we have to get to that trailer,...how do we do it, is the real question here, I would think.
This is what you should consider when setting up your tractor toy's.:)

Your buddy destroyed the transmission on his truck plowing just his own driveway...is it ridiculously long?

I wasn't suggesting a plow truck instead of tractor altogether, I was just saying that for the money some people are talking about spending, they could add a plow truck in addition to the tractor they already have, and spend a lot less money.

For example, if you have a Kubota L3800 that does great for everything else you need it to do, but it won't run a big enough snow blower, or blade to move snow the way you'd like, it would be kind of crazy to drop $50K on an L6060 unless you're really dealing with serious conditions that are somewhat unusual. Obviously that's mostly driven by local weather, your land, etc.

ya, 20 acres and lots of driveway to the house. most on an incline. His biggest problem..so he says, was pushing it accross the road and into the ditch at the entrance to the driveway. He thinks that popping it over the plowed edges left by the association plow was too hard on the rig. From my experience pushing with my tractor mounted front plow, ive hit these same berms and have sprung the trip on my plow. thats some serious hard packed ice at times.

Interesting....it's a bummer either way. I'm really careful with the plow, and have made note of the few places the blade likes to hang up, but I still take it pretty easy. I can clear my driveway, and my neighbor's, in 20min or so, so it's not worth rushing.

I'm in between back blades, which reminds me, I have to call EA to order a new 8 footer today :)

ya, i can clean the driveway WAYYYY faster with the front plow than i can with the blower. If i only have 2-4 inches of snow. ive been tending to use the plow more than the blower. On deeper snow, i tend to plow the center to the edge, then attach the blower to make the final pass . Id say the plow takes 1/4th the time to clear snow than the blower, but the blower places the snow in an area that wont get blown back onto the driveway when the winds pick up. My neighbors driveway gets a real bad wind drift of snow. even on 4" snow days, he can get 24" on his driveway. sure glad i dont have that issue.

I plowed snow for many years commercially and found that snow conditions were the critical thing. Wet heavy snow just packed the blower impeller and the blower was useless. Went to a C-30 4wd with 9 ft blade and in deep snow, chains and weight on the bed. Just be sure you don't hit anything solid while whizzing along yelling Wa-hoo!

I totally agree with this.

I have used a loader, plow and blower for our driveway, a hotel and my inlaws. For light-medium snow stuff, you cant beat a plow as long as you have a place to put it.
Once it gets heavy and nasty, the blower or loader comes out.
If you have to clear a parking lot, a pusher on a backhoe or payloader does amazing things.

I have plowed with a one way truck plow and wing on the highways. I also have plowed with a road grader (555 Wabco) and wing in the city. I had a Farmall C with a straight blade on the loader arms and it was a royal PITA to plow with. I now have a Kioti CK27 and a front mounted blower and for my situation it is the cats butt. I am warm & dry and I don't care how long it takes me to clear off the snow.

ya...there is something nice about sitting in a warm cab and blowing the snow. Especially when you come around the corner and see a snowman sitting on an open cab tractor blowing snow.

I did this 2 seasons ago. Went around the corner and theres my friend blowing his driveway in a real heavy snowstorm. We waved to each other..then he proceeded to giving me a 1 finger salute. All in fun though...er i think.

This is when I make good use of my snowmobile gear. It keeps me warm and dry. My drive is only 150' but I also clear a public walking path, 4' wide and about 2KM long.
