Advice on deck cleaning and blade changing

That's like getting under a car that's on a hydraulic jack with no stands or blocks.

Well not quite, I'm lifting the front off the ground about 18 inches, I'm not getting under a lawn mower that is completely lifted overhead, the weight of it is probably no more than 100lbs.. Could a line burst, maybe but pretty doubtful with 100lbs.. From now on I might block it up since you brought it up though..

I agree with the potential danger of lifting the mower with the FEL, as I do. BUT - I don't see that as any more dangerous than lifting with one of those mower lift jacks, or any hydraulic jack, or even a cherry picker. Like atsah, I also don't stick my head under the mower when its lifted. Not that I value my head any more than a hand or an arm.

Working around any lift machinery is dangerous, and certain precautions should be carefully attended to. We take a certain number of risks everyday in our lives. Enjoy today, it certainly could be your, or anybody's, last.

I lift the ZTR with the FEL. I know the risks of doing this, and accept the risk.

The point I was trying to make is that ANY lifting device (FEL, hyd jack, mech jack, etc..) should always be backed up by a solid lock/stand of some sort, when working underneath.

It may take you a little extra time the first time, to rig up your system. After that, mere minutes to potentially save life & limb.

All I need to do is think about others, vs. myself, and it's an easy decision.

do the bolts all spin on and odd normally or are some left handed?

On my husvarna they are right threaded (normal)
