Advice on porch rails

Did you hire out the plasma cut or do you have one yourself? I really like the way you can see thru this, would love the have something like this.

No plasma, these are made from rods bent on a slip roller. Frame is 1.5" sq angle (1/8"). Here is a close-up of one before I brought it in for electropolishing, which cleans up all the discoloration from the welds, passivates the surface and makes everything shiny!

That looks amazing and very creative.

On two jobs I used 1/2 inch copper pipe.
Wiped them with laquer thinner and they soon developed that nice green patina and the clients loved it.
As to price, even at copper high, the pipe was fairly competitive with box store railing kits.
A tad more work but still in the ball park.
The main plus was viewing thru the rails, only glass would have been better.

Thanks. I wish i could take credit for the idea, but I saw a very similar design online in a forum and did something very similar to it. I ain't no artist but i can make stuff if I know what to make...

2x5” steel tube top rail. Nice place to park a drink or plate.
Wheel rim 3.5”x 3/8” flat bar. 5/8” spokes, 1x2 tune bottom. Sixteen lags, olyloks , per section. Powder coated. Super strong.

Nice design. Do you know if it meets railing code? That is always the hard part with creative railing designs. "cannot pass a 4" sphere when pushed with 2 lbs of force horizontally"...

My railing does not meet that code. Does it need to?, no. Depends on where you live and what codes you have to comply with. Lawyers will say babies will crawl 2 miles thru the woods just to climb on the deck and try to go thru the railing to their peril.

I don’t need to live behind bars or chicken wire.

Note there is no vertical element in the railing. The scrolls are zephyrs that give the wheels motion to complement the centuries old wagon road by the cabins.

Material Cost was ~$30/ft, 30% going to powder coating.
