phxraptor,
If it were me, I'd go with a nice steel building. Thirty miles to the East of you in Athens, Tx. there are two steel building manufacturers 1. Red Dot Buildings 2. Athens Buildings. I'v seen some of the Athens Buildings and they looked fairly good. Also, there is a Metal Mart store on Rt. 31 before you get to Athens. They have everything you need to build your own building.

Also, for those who probably don't know, the comment about fruit cake refers to the Corsicana Bakery. They are one of the largest bakers of fruit cakes in the US.

On The Lake, Thanks for your help. I will check them out. Now I get the fruit cake thing, I believe the fruit cake factory in Corsicana IS the best known in the world.

PM wroughtn_harv. He might know contractors. Or, go to thier get together.... Lots of Texan TBN'rs there might have input.

Harv has some pictures of a garage he's building in "Build it yourself" forum...

Pick up a copy of Country World newspaper. It carries a lot of ads for building contractors and supplies in east Texas. It's a freebee, I see it at the tractor dealers but I am now a subscriber. $20 a yr mailed. Just received this weeks edition. It is a place to start and you could ask for references.

The facts are:
It is bigger "People are still talking about the time Johnny Carson had a (Corsicana) fruitcake brought onto his television show with a forklift, and the cake was so heavy it smashed his desk."

and better: "Gourmet food magazines have praised the Corsicana fruitcakes, and Consumer Reports has listed it as the best."

..according to our sources

Phxraptor, I see in your profile that you will be moving to you place in Texas in December. You do not have a long time to learn all about your new state's bigger and better things. We may have to give you some of our free lessons. Welcome to Texas and Texasbynet....I mean Tractorbynet. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks TXDON ! The property we will be living on has been in my wifes fathers family since the 1860's. My father inlaw wants it to stay in the family so we are moving there. My father inlaw was born and raised in Texas and my wife was born in San Antonio. He never built a home there because he is a retired USAF,3 fighter piltot tours in Viet Nam and was all over the world. But the wife and I decided we would carry on the family tradition and keep the land. By the way the town is named Pursley. My father inlaws mothers maiden name was Pursley. Thats where the town name came from. They settled it.

Junkman, there are only two kinds of Texans. Those who were born here. And those who got here as fast as they could.

I'm one of the latter.

A while back someone sent me a picture with a huge guy in one pane and in the next, you saw him flying around in circles, in the third pane, was this tiny guy. The jist of the captions were....
1... a Texan filled with hot air.....
2... a Texan that has been stuck with a needle
3... a Texas midget

I deleted it from the computer otherwise I would have posted it. People sure make fun of Texas.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yep, they sure do, but of course we know that people do tend to make fun of things they are jealous of. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Corsicana, TX - birth place of:

Collin Street Bakery
Wolf Brand Chili
Magnolia Oil Co. (mobil)

For a pole barn style garage you might wanna check out BCI Barns, National Barn Co., etc. They are on the net and do decent work at good prices. There is a co. out of Kaufman (Hoover?) that also will build one for you. Sorry, I'm too lazy to look up the links. Good luck.
