Why don't you try soaking these items in an electrolytic bath for a couple of days or longer in an attempt to remove the rust and maybe it will loosen the binding portions as well. Search for the process on TBN.

I am happy to report that I think I have figured out how to get these out. I removed two more bearing housings last night and spent about 10 minutes cleaning them in a parts washer. I then pried out all the seals and seal housings which took a lot of chisel work. This allowed me better access to the bearing and really helped cleaning around it . I then started using a chisel and hammer tapping it on alternate sides until it started to rotate. The whole time I was washing it in the parts washer with lots of flushing. I got both of these free in about an hour. Now only four more to go!

Your suggestion about the electrolytic bath is good. However, I think the grit is more a cause of the lock up than the rust. I just learned of this process and just used it to de-rust three hoppers on a row planter with unbelievable success. It is amazing how this works. I also used it on some of the parts on this disc renovation with good success. If my last four bearings prove stubborn, I may try it an them.

I've heard that an ATF-Acetone "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone works better than any commercial product.

That's funny, the company i work forhave a patent on that mixture it's called sieze free. And it works, we deal with high stress bolting al the time and it's just about all we use. Just make sure you mix it in a well ventilated area.

Thanks mjncad.

Your description is good; and thanks for the offer to help me out by making one for me. I will have to determine the thread size of the zerk I need to extend. The Kubota dealer says there are two different sizes of zerks used on this machine (ZD18 ZTR mower). This zerk goes to the base of the middle spindle housing and is behind the deck drive-belt and very difficult for me to get to. I want to extend with a pipe or hose and mount the end on or through a metal tab so it is out of the tight confines. I will let you know what I find out when I learn it. Thanks again for responding.

You're welcome.

Another member says Acetone & ATF don't mix, so what do I know.

They don't
Mix well at all, you have to shake the
Bottle to keep the ATF suspeneded in the acetone. It's not really about blending them just having them come through the nozzle at the same time, the ATF will follow the acetone through capillary action.
