Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

Daryl, you are correct on that, the compacts, FEls, Backhoes and obviously implements are shiped in crates then assembled at the dealer.
I don't know about the larger machines like yours, I haven't seen one of them in a crate.

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

Well, I checked the coupling that appeared to be leaking on the loader joystick control. Relieved the pressure, detached the quick connect coupling, and tried to tighten the fitting. But it was on there pretty tight to begin with, don't know if I really even budged it any. So, I cleaned everything up, reattached quick connect and will run the tractor & loader a bit tomorrow to see if it is going to leak again. Hopefully not! Time will tell. I'll let you all know after I test it a bit.

While I was in the garage I decided to look everything over a little closer. Crawled under tractor to look for anything out of the ordinary and I discovered a loose bolt in the front axle housing. Not sure how to describe the location, but it appears that it is one of six bolts that hold the right front wheel housing together (I assume it's the housing that contain the front wheel bevel gears). It was backed out about 1/4". Not sure what's up with that? It appears that the bolts have been removed before because the gray paint is all scratched off the bolts on this one side. I checked the other side (left housing) and those bolts are still totally painted gray. Why would these have been removed, or at least had a wrench put to them? The tractor only had not quite 2 hours on it when I took delivery. I haven't noticed any mechanical problems with it, just that the one bolt was backed out a bit. This concerns me a bit /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I tightened the bolt back up, and check the others to see if they were loose. They were not.

Should I be concerned? Not sure there is much I can do about it? Like I said, it hasn't given me a problem, or even given me any indication that there is a problem. I am just wondering why the bolts were touched to begin with?

Also, it doesn't look like the housing was taken apart, just paint scratched off the bolts, like someone had taken a wrench to them.

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

Kubotas are shipped with one side of the front axle removed so it will fit in the crate, your dealer didn't check over it well when they assembled it.

That's a big relief! Thanks! Guess I was making mountain out of mole hill?

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

The TLB's come assembled (BX23, BX24, B21, L39, L48). The M125X, M105's usually come assembled with loader. Presently, on the other models, the loaders can be dealer installed options. Hope this helps.

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

I thought that was true. I got to follow my M9 from build in Japan shipped in a container to Savanah and overland to Gainsville. It came into the dealer all assembled minus the bucket on a drop deck. I ordered one of the last built. It was superseeded by the M95. I got the 95 engine in the 90 though.

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

Missing manuals, loose bolts, leaking fittings? Sounds like your dealer has some quality control issues... Have you addressed these with them? I would think they need to make it right for you...

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

I have discussed the missing manual & leaky fitting with him. He is sending me the manual, thought he gave it to me already. He suggested that I try tightening the fitting first.

I really can't complain about dealer yet, he has been very helpful to this point. I pushed him extremely hard to get the tractor to me before 12/31. With some extra effort, he made that happen for me. For instance, he did not have the HD bucket in stock when we made the deal, so he ordered a new loader w/ QA & HD bucket from Kubota. This was during Christmas Holiday, and it ended up getting held up @ the freight carrier's warehouse. He ended up driving several hours - 1 way - to go pick up FEL from freight company so that we could get the tractor before the end of the year.

Let me get back to you in a few weeks or maybe even a month or so, after I have some more experience with him on the "service after the sale" issue. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt right now.

Thanks!

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

With all the hydraulic problems on new tractors that I am seeing, I am starting to worry about Kubota's quality control. Your tractor, a bunch of B series owners and my bx2230, what is going on here? Any real cause for concern, or is this a case of early buyer's remorse that is unjustified?

I'd just like to put in a good word for Kubota, and any other manufacturer whose machine comes through with a few little loose ends like this. These are complex machines for sure, and I can see how things like this can slip through the cracks. This is why naval vessels are taken on "shake-down cruises" after construction or refitting - to see what needs to be tightened, adjusted or tweaked.

Almost all of my FEL hoses had to be snugged up a bit, but that was about the extent of my "shake-down" process. Not bad.

I couldn't be happier with the quality of my machine, and I'm looking forward to taking her to 10,000+ hours. We shall see.

Of course, I'm not familiar with the B/BX's, and there very well might be some quality control problems - I'm not a "My tractor, right or wrong" kinda guy. Just putting in a good word for my Grand L.

Re: After 1st Day\'s Use

Marooned:

I know I am a little late in replying to this, but I had a very similar problem on my BX1500. From the day I took delivery, the housing of the loader valve seemed to always collected a puddle of hydro fluid. I tried tightening up the connections, but they didn't seem to budge any tighter. I had the dealer pick up the tractor twice (as it was covered under warranty) and both times he said they didn't see a leak in there shop! Maybe the air in my shop was causing it to leak!

Anyway, I finally narrowed the leak down to the female quick connect (2nd one from the top) and the reducer fitting from the valve itself. It appeared that this specific quick connect was a little different than the other three. As was mentioned early, the tractor was assembled by the dealer and probably grabbed from a bin of quick connectors. There were not as many threads to turn and the connector body was binding up against the dust cap leash. I know there will be some disagreement on this, but I ended up wrapping a turn and a quarter of teflon tape 1/4" from the top of the threads. I have not had a single leak since and that was a year ago. Anyway, I hope this help.
