Any clues on how to get the nut out? I have bent the depressed area, that is serving as a lock, back but there is no room for a wrench and the shaft is 6" long so there is no socket that will reach.

I don't know if a parts diagram would help but AGCO Parts Books ( enter as Guest) has them.
You may have to make a tool. Might be an expensive sacrifice to what appears will take a large socket but you could cut the drive end off a socket so it fits over the shaft and weld a handle to it. If the socket is tall enough, you may be able to simply turn it with vice grips or pipe wrench and not have to weld a handle to it..
