age on kohler and onan engine??

anyone know how to tell the age of a kohler and onan engine?? im doing a research project on john deere riding mowers for school and need to know the age of my 110 and 318. i know they are 60's and 80's, and there is a way to tell through the engine serial numbers like briggs but just not sure

Small problem with what they say on that page, it doesn't apply to early model engines.
For Kohler Serial Numbers:
Letter A thru E followed by 6 digits are years 1965 thru 1969.
If seven digits, the first two numbers are as follows:
10-19=1969
20-29=1970
30-39=1971
40-49=1972
50-59=1973
60-69=1974
70-72=1975
73-79=1976
80-89=1977
90-94=1978
95-99=1979
In 1980 they changed to eight digits with them as follows using the first three digits:
100-109=1980
110-119=1981
and so on till
190-199=1989
Onans Serial Numbers use a letter for the month and 2 digits for the year in that time period as in:
A81XXXXXXXX being January 1981
L89XXXXXXXX being December 1989
