Ags or R4s?

I think the R4s would be great if I never left firm ground, i.e., if the Bota stayed on the road or meadow all the time. But stray even ten feet into my tree line and you're in soft, loamy stuff full of decomposing leaves. While the R4s might get me through it, they would not give enough traction to drag hardwood logs very far. As many pointed out I could keep the chains on while doing that sort of work, but R4s with chains (especially our gnarly New England type chains) would damage the turf even worse than ags.

On the other hand, ags are tried and true. They'll get me home every time. That's my choice. Pete

I had Ags on my first tractor then went with the R4s on my new bigger tractor. I definitely regret it! I use the tractor for mowing horse pastures, plowing snow and moving manure. The Ags never got stuck and very seldom did I use 4X4. With the R4s I have to use 4x4 most of the time or I either slip or get stuck in the wet spots. If I drove carefully on the lawn in 2x the Ags were fine.

Went though the same thing when I bought my L3410HST and the dealer had a 3010 with R-4s and the 3410 with AGs, both were filled with ballast and he recomended the Ag's and let me drive both. The R-4s were and much stiffer ride, and I mean ALOT of bounching on hard ground. The AGs had a much better ride and he confirmed what everyone says about tracton, go with AGs. After plowing snow a few times and pushing drifts and piles around I'm glad I went with the AGs, I have yet to lose traction.
