Ags vs. industiral vs. turf

I wasnt trying to be rude. I'm just sick of seeing what tires to get? I dont want something to tear up the yard to bad bla bla bla. Were all adults I think anyways & I know that its in the search that they forgot to use. I think most that ask said question just want a confirmation that the tires they want are the best one for them and god forbid ---------their grass. When you bought your hoe builder I'll bet you didnt wonder if you should get ag tires put on it. I'll also bet that you didnt go on a forum & ask if the R4's are gonna be ok. Its kinda like common sense. I guess some people have it & some dont. By the way I'm not mad:D, I'm just discusing this with gusto:p I really dont care that anyone asks I was just talking out loud so I hope noone takes offense cause I'm a lover not a fighter:eek:

Funny you said "we're all adults". We're not!!! I just had a 13 year old kid who is a member on TBN try to tell me what my truck was worth in a private message.

God bless the little bugger......trying to get me to sell him a truck he can't even drive yet for $10,000 less than I would take for it! :D:D

I don't think it's a common sense thing as much as it's a inexperience thing. Guy that used to live in a subdivision buys a chunk of land and really doesn't know what to do, so he comes here & asks. ;)

A newbie using the search function --- guffaw guffaw, chuckle chuckle. Like that's gonna happen!

And if it did, what would we have to do?

That guy in particular will get R4s and, if its really a chunk of land, will either learn from his mistake or be forever blind to it by justifying the choice.

I've been using them for 20 years with the exception of my old Kubota 285DT which had R-1's (and it could go anywhere). I've been to heck & back with R-4's and won't hesitate to use them for anything I do with the exception of logging or plowing on a farm, which I don't do anyway.

From the years< Turfs are the softest and with the least amount of plies over the tread area as well as the side wall! Ag tires are the next regardless of plies rated as they to have a softer sidewall. Idustrial is heavier sidewall and of coarse the plies also go over the tread area.

Turf's if only used on the lawn will normally run for years well over 3000 hours. The ag's with liquid, 2000 hours, air fill only 4,000 hours plus.
Industrials big killer, being on the pavement! roughly about 2000 hours max.

Fronts do wear out faster then the backs, yes they normally turn nearly two to one!

Art we have a 98 NH TS90 MFWD loader tractor with 7500hrs on it with the original Goodyear Field and road radial ag tires on it that we have done nothing to and these tires have seen lots of road time on gravel and paved roads plus lots of driving on concrete so I guess it all depends on the use of the tractor. We also have a 88 Ford 5610 MFWD loader tractor and it has 6500 hrs on it and we have got through 4 sets of front tires and on the 2nd set on the rear Goodyear radial ag tires.

Ya know I was hunting last night by a field & I was thinking that there are so many variables such as, type of soil & how wet it is. Does it stay wet most of the time? Do you drive on hard road much? Do you have granite in field or on roads? Do you use 4x4 all the time, even when you dont need it etc, etc. There were so many things I thought of out there that its impossible to really suggest one tire for a guy that lives in a different local than me. My main thought was basically this, If your gonna be using loader on gravel, concrete, blacktop, oil/chip or any hard surface then I suppose R4's would be the way to go. If your gonna be doing bushhogging, tilling, or anything that requires good traction in muddy or slimmy conditions then R1's should be used. I guess the one thing that still gets me is the comment of I dont want to tear the yard up to bad. What did you buy a tractor for, to drive around your house? I mean how often are you really gonna go in your yard? If you know your gonna be in your yard alot then I'm thinking turfs would be good. Here's what I know for sure. I done talking about it.:D By the way I had a huge 10 pointer come in on me when I was stalking a doe. I just started to draw on the doe & I heard a stick behind me. I turned around & there he was 25yards from me. Can you say Busted. Dam

I would be a perfect example of someone who is goping to in a yard often and need to avoid damage. Let's say I build an addition on a house and must ocassionally drive across their yard with one of my tractors to get to the excavation area, or repeatedly drive up/down their driveway. If I did this with R1's, I'd have a very unhappy customer. My customers tell me over & over "that backhoe doesn't do as much damage to our grass as I thought".

Same with previous Ford 555, L-39 & L-35 backhoes. Their R-4's caused little yard damage and had the ability to slog through slop pretty respectfully.

Now I gotta think at least 75% of the guys on this website are homeowners with little 4x4 subCUTs that work on their small farmettes, estates, etc on the weekends. I would also bet they find that R-4's are the perfect solution for the problem of needing better traction than turfs without ripping the lawn to shreds with R-1's.

How's that answer? :)

I think doing the work you do (home addition, pool, etc) you have to factor in yard damage and plan for it and add the repair costs into the bid. You can't do everything by hand and you can't always wait 3 days for the yard to dry. But you are going to see R4 on a BH because they spend a lot of time on concrete.

R1s in a yard just depends. I hav R1s and don't have any problem, the soil is some sandy and some hard clay. I don't mow when its wet or muddy. My 3 ribs on the front do more damage anyway.

Thats funny cause mine is the same way. My r1's dont tear up the yard near as bad as turning to tight with the fronts.

Builder: That answer suits me fine!
