Thanks, I thought about getting a pair for my Duramax truck but I would rather have the deeper tone like a semi or train horn. I have used the canister style horn on my boat and think its too high pitched to use on the truck.

There are a lot of folks very obsessed with big horns on their pickups. The diesel truck websites seem to attract the most manly horn wanters. Usually it requires either a real air compressor or a stored supply of air in a tank. The lines to run those big horns are very large and the horn must be very large to get that low tone. You can make it sound like a fog horn on a ferry, that deep roar, but with such volume as to make people feel it. It'll cost way way more money though.

My main use was fun and also to wake up that goofball cell phone driver merging onto the highway and not looking to see that I am already there with 50 feet of truck and trailer. They may wet themselves but at least they don't get run off the road.

Does your horn have a name tag. The older ones were made by Klaxon. All the ones I have seen made by them have been 6 volts. My current tractor has a made in China horn that is 12 volts.

A friend of mine gave me an old set of air horns off a semi before he retired to Florida. I didn't know what to do with them so I mounted them in the pole barn on the back wall above the air compressor. I run them at 120 psi and every once in a while I'll yank on the cord attached to them and they sound like a locomotive coming down the tracks. It really drives the neighbors chickens crazy........ guess i'm just plain ornery

I'm a little ornery too, I can't help but blow these horns as I go down the road. No particular reason is needed. It is helpful if there is an innocent animal to scare but I avoid doing it when other people on the road might be able to identify the sound as coming from me.
