Hello the group...have a question, I just bought and old oooohga horn. and I was wondering how to tell if it is 6volts or 12 volts?
I wish to install in on a new tractor , but don't really want to hook it up to a 12volt battery and burn it up...these horns are scarce!....
any Help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks Mike..

If it really is an old one its probably 6 volts.
If its a reproduction or replica you can buy at places like JC Whitney it may be 12 volt. Hook it up to a 6 volt lantern battery and see if it sounds like it should. If it sounds sick it may be a 12 volt unit.

Great advice on the lantern battery. Low voltage will just make it groan, too much voltage will be too much power.

I just put a set of those 135 dB air horns on my pickup yesterday. The ones with a compressor and tubing. I am guilty of sending a group of roadside cows into a panic, my 3yo daughter pushed the button so its her fault, sorta.

A bit off the orig. topic but how do the air horns sound that you installed. Do they sound like a big rigs or are they the squeaky high pitched sounding ones? Where did you get them?

Harbor freight sells them for less than 20$. They actually have harbor freight's name on them. They aren't a squeal but aren't as low toned as a train horn or a big rig. They actually sound pretty close to those hand held air horns with the precharged caister. The two horns are of different lengths for different tones. They are supposed to be run together for a dual tone sound. The air output from the compressor might be too much for just one.

I tested them out, couldn't help myself, with the air nozzle off of my shop comressor and boy was that a mistake. The baby inside the house was crying and my ears were not working well for awhile.

I wired them indpendently of my regular horn since I don't want to blast the bengay off of some poor old lady that didn't notice the light had changed to green.
