Air forced turbo heater/ salamander

I can't get it to work. I wonder if Kerosene looses it's volitility with age. This stuff might be ten years old. I did a Google search and could find no scientific answers, just ideas and notions.

I put some on a stick and lit it with a torch. It seemed to burn.

I still can't believe that I can have atomized kerosene and air blowing out of the nozzle and can't ignite it with a propane torch. Something doesn't seem right about that.

The spark plug is going like crazy but there seems to be so much voltage there that it doesn't just spark at the gap but in numerous places.

Maybe I need to learn a thing or two about oil burners!

you might be right about the fuel going to crap after so many years.

I have a wheeled version of the diesel torpedo heater. IF i had taken better care of it I am sure it would be a bit more reliable. I gave away my propane heaters after getting this one. the propane version put more flame out the end, and the tank was always out when needed; easy to have extra diesel around. I did use kerosene some to, but the diesel was cheaper. When this one dies I will get another- its best use is thawing out pipes under the house. Fire it up, put it about 3 feet from the opening and let it go for a bit. pipes usually thaw in 15 minutes.
Just re-read my instructions "Diesel or number one fuel oil only"

You guys talked me into it!! I just bought a 55k btu for 85$. Not bad!! Check it out! Can run kerosene, fuel oil no 1 (diesel #1 is close), and jet fuel! Very happy. New a similar model is 180$ or more. I was hoping to get one that runs on diesel but that's ok. I own a diesel Massey ferguson so I figured I could have 5 gallons of diesel fuel at any time and run in both the tractor and the salamander. It's not for the expense I wanted to run diesel but for the ability to have only one fuel. Now I need three types, gasoline, diesel and kerosene.

Also today's diesel fuel is a lot cleaner. They went from 500 parts per million sulfur to only 15.

Diesel is easily accessible to purchase near by. Could I mix it with kerosene and burn it?? I really don't want to clog the machine up.

Winter blend of fuel is #1 and 2 mixed together so it is closer to kerosene

I have the same heater. Not that it works! lol But I was surprised to find out you can burn Diesel. I bought expensive Kerosene all these years for nothing. I was just confused because I didn't know #1 fuel oil IS Diesel and it says right on the unit. #1 Fuel oil or Kerosine ONLY!

Now don't go doing something STUPID like burning your shoelaces off!

LMAO thanks for the tip. Does yours ever make you sick because of the fumes ? I think some one put no 2 diesel or fuel oil in it. I am going to remove the fuel and replace with fresh from the pump kerosene

I have never tried it on Diesel and now I can't get the thing working. I was hoping YOU could tell me how well it works on Diesel AND how badly it smells.

Those are good heaters, I bought a new 55-k just like that one about 15 years ago, I used it every day of Winter while trimming houses, it kept 2200-2500 sq.ft home comfortable enough to work in, ( 65* ) a tank of fuel would last 10 hours, I finally got the best of it after about 12 years, Then I made the mistake of buying the big daddy of them all, because it was thermostat controlled and digital temp readout etc, etc, It can suck up 5 gals in 5 hours, it is a dual fuel heater diesel & k-1 I can't afford to use it much, and it's really too large to take around with me, the 5500 is perfect size,
You can also add wheels and a handle to that heater, it will make it easier to move around, enjoy
