Air forced turbo heater/ salamander

mine states on the unit that it will burn #1 diesel, kerosene or jet fuel. The instructions stated that you can burn diesel in it. Ive been burning nothing but diesel for 4 years now. never had any issues. I use it alot, and store it with fuel in it. As i say, ive never had any issues.

mind you, i only use winter blend diesel in these as there only run in the winter. up here, winter blend is supposed to be a mix of kerosene and diesel.

Well I change the fuel to kerosene..... NO SMELL!! someone put dyed fuel oil or off road diesel fuel for sure! I'm sure diesel no1 may be ok but the smell is gone. I added scented additive :)

they do tend to smell a bit...but since i use it to shed off snow in t outbuildings..one being a barn. whats a little more stink.

In my shop i only use it to take the edge off cold. I mostly use 125,000 btu propane shop furnace when working in there. Ill probibly add a pellet stove in the near future

when I use mine I be sure to locate it close by a window, leaving the window open about 1" as I stated this one is thermostat controlled and when it cuts off and back on again at first startup it can puff a good bit of smoke into a room, and that stuff can choke ya! and is also another reason that I don't use it that often,

Mine auto starts, not sure if they all do, but this is a great add-on for one of the heaters Amazon.com - Reddy Heater Thermostat for Kerosene Heaters #HA1210 - Thermastat For Portable Forced Air Kerosene Heater I have one around somewhere...
My dad and I have used plug in thermostats for different reasons but that one looks very high quality.

Last night while using the salamander I only ran it five minutes before getting really sick. I used my suction gun to remove as much of the "red" dyed fuel as I could, added 1/4 to half a gallon of kerosene and removed all the fuel I could again and added two gallons of fresh kerosene. All I could smell was hot air!! Someone really did pump summer diesel or no 2 fuel oil in that think. It felt like I had a Diesel engine running in the garage with the door closed. Once the fuel was replaced it was just hot air and acted just like my friends old Remington kero salamander only his is double the size at 115,000 btu.

Even in an emergency I would have trouble adding straight diesel to that thing!

Mine actually has a bit LESS smell when using diesel vs kero. It's a Mr. Heater 40,000 btu IIRC. I use plain old #2 off-road diesel and it works great and only a slight smell. Still, I wouldn't run it for hours in an enclosed space!

i have used kerosene in these over the years and i really dont notice any difference in stink. they both stink.

thats why i wouldn't use it for anything except quickly taking the chill off the shop till the propane heater takes over.

as far as the stink in the horse barn...why would notice
