air handler coils froze up - question

/ air handler coils froze up - question #61
I will have to check out the line and maybe add a line from the pan.

I knew that when I bought my current place that the attic was a stupid place to put the air handler. Think about it, cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Sounds like dumb and dumber to me.

I told my builder, "No ductwork or air handler in the attic". People think the ducts are insulated so not a problem. Maybe an R value of 3 or 4 against extreme temperature differences (100 degrees or more)

Could be worse.. I know people with hot water heaters in the attic!

As an update to this thread.. I usually have only been running the ac for a few hours before bed.. so not a real test to see if it was gonna freeze up again.. well last night I did tghe endurance test.. ran it from about 8pm thru about 7am.. worked fine...

Hey, I have my solar hot water tank in the attic! I did put 5 inches of Styrofoam insulation around it. I doubt if the heat leakage is significant. That does not bother me as much as water leaking potential. A 2 inch pan may not be enough.

as long as it's got a 2" drain it should be fine! :)

It's a one inch. I think a 2 inch would require a hole so big it in the pan side that there would be nothing left of the pan side.
