Air in hydraulics?

Hi - somewhat of a novice here.

I have a Mahindra 2310. I had a hydraulic leak on a rubber boot on the right brake rod, and I lost a lot of fluid. I replaced the boot and refilled the hydraulics (about 4 gallons), but the hydraulics aren’t working as they should.

Before the repair, I had no steering, and neither the bucket or the hitch would raise or lower. After the repair and filling, I have a little steering, and I was only able to raise the bucket a few inches.

I’ve read that some hydraulic systems are self bleeding - is that the case on mine? I’ve spent enough time messing with the controls and steering to believe it isn’t just going to fix itself by bleeding air out automatically.

Any tips for getting the hydraulics working again?

Try loosening the lines on top of the pump a few turns. Then briefly starting the engine and watch the lines for oil spewing out. If/when it does, shut the engine off and tighten the lines. Sometimes that needs to be done.
