Four shots 4 different squirrels and three knock downs... all just scampered away.

There must be hundreds on the property with maybe 30 in full view of the house with some even digging under foundation...

That's not my experience at all.

I shoot "many" rodents through the summer months. Two today (the strawberry thieves !) Grays, reds and ground squirrels. Most every shot is a pass through even with the .22 at about 680fps.
There is a definite "plop" when a body shot is made, but those critters don't go far.
Dead is dead!

It's my experience that higher velocity pellet guns are more difficult to shoot accurately, they are very sensitive to how they are held when fired.
Pellet choice could also be an issue where some penetrate others impact and seem to bounce off only stunning they momentarily.

Not sure on the pellet specifics... the person that brought the air rifle over hadn't used if for awhile... was accurate with a paper target at 25 yards.
