Please explain how so. And does he own pathetic?

Please dont fuel their silly back and forth banter. Separate, they both provide excellent feedback. Get them going at each other, well, not really amusing or in any way a contribution to the issue at hand.
What was the first year of the dmax? Something is telling me 03. If so, the only solid diesel motor that year was the cummins. I am referring to the late 03 6.0 with Ford, definitely not the 7.3. Some dmax and ps motors fared well, but the issues are well documented.

I didn't realize.

Actually the Duramax came out in '01 and the 7.3 Fords ended midway into '03.

No big deal. Wow i didnt realize the dmax has been around 11 years. Not a ton of them in my parts. Cummins rules the roost here.

I knew he was being ironic by the two serious issues comment. I do have one question for ya AK. Why you going to a BP over the GN?

Matt

Already have a GN trailer - 15.7K. Need a BP for hauling hay, mostly. Getting a new one ties in real well with another "equipment haul" from down south!

In all seriousness... there's some long stretches of "real lonesome" on that road heading south. I DO NOT want to be sittin' on the side of the road - waitin' for somebody to come along. :(

So, I'm gonna check things over real well before I saddle up.

I had 2 NEW Dmax's and I couldn't trust them to go to get groceries let alone Alaska.
the 2004 had know overheating issues and GM acted dumb. I've never given GM a dime since.

This '03 has been one of the best vehicles I've owned! Been back and forth on the road to the lower 48 - 6 times - already. Hauled some heavy loads with it and not a burp.

Next one will be a Dmax, too.

Oh yeah... any guesses about which truck is most in use at Prudhoe Bay - and which truck was replaced by all the major's and oil field contractor's?

Most people don't realize what the drive is like. My son works in Prince William Sound. Last fall he drove from Cordova to Bellingham Wa. All in all not a bad drive. He did it alone and we didn't tell his mother too much till he got there. When it was time to go back, they called him back nearly a month early, I talked him into taking the ferry. Well due to winter schedules and when his employer wanted him back the closest he could get to and still make it on time, was Haines. Still a 700 mile drive. He had planned on taking his time-----but there was a cold spell that came in -40 or something like that. Didn't want to stop or shut the vehicle dow cause he knew he would have a hard time getting it going again. He landed up driving straight thru. Again something we don't tell his mother about. If his truck had broke down, well I don't even want to think about that. People need to realize that the next gas station isn't just a few miles down the road and there isn't a DunknDounuts on every other corner.

So I guess I know where you are coming from and why you are concerned. I would be too. My opinion take it to a reputable mechanic have him look at it and get his opinion.

First week in June should be pretty nice. Could be pretty wet and muddy, though. None of that minus -40F stuff!!

Spent today reviewing information on the Internet regarding injector replacement - just in case - better to be somewhat educated; at least.

After several conversations with a few local farmer's, I made an appointment with a local garage to give the truck a good, thorough check.

Take it in next week.

Appreciate the feedback.

Those sound like fairly minor issues, but a minor issue in the middle of nowhere can become a major issue quick.

My Wrangler, the biggest lemon I've ever owned has had several major issues, but I managed to get home with them, and it was a minor issue that stranded me.
Majors being; broken gear in manual tranny, fan through the radiator (I was definitely limited on driving range with this one, but the mile or so home, I figured was safe), and a clutch throw-out failure (good thing I can slip shift).
The minor one that stranded me was a busted U-joint. I guess I could have limped it a ways in FWD, but I'd have lost all my fluid from the transfer case doing it.

Make sure your cell phone battery holds a charge, you've got a CB and your AAA is up to date.
