Anyone have a good place to buy an ALL copper 300A ground clamp? Checked eBay, Amazon some LWS and cannot find one. Plenty of brass or partial copper cast clamps Trying to replace the stock clamp on 252.

Thanks

Eric

I know it isn't what you are looking for but I just replaced my ground clamp on a new 252 with the typical curved brass one and it made a big difference.

Lenco. Model 300 or model 500 (500 is a bit of overkill, but it will work)

Available at Air LIquide and other LWS. Sold under the Blueshield brand and Lenco.

Great clamp. Solid bronze. Made in USA. I HATE the factory stampped metal clamps, added a Lenco to my 252 soon after getting it. The stock clamp is OK because it has a nice bronze pad, but the Lenco is much better. Improves performance too. About $50, for the 500A at AL.

Regardless of whether you keep the cheesy clamp or get a lenco or tweco one, find one of these

Braided ground battery cables

cut a piece of it about 3" long, fasten it to the side of your clamp that's connected to the actual work lead. This is just a slightly more elegant version of one of Jody's tricks (weldingtipsandtricks.com) ... Steve

They don't make em, they're all bronze or brass

Why copper? I use the brass Tweco's with no issues with the clamp anyways.

The OP is probably mistaking bronze or brass clamps as cooper, and then when he reads the description that they are bronze, he thinks they are inferior. There would be no reason to even build a copper clamp, they are too soft and weak to hold up to the abuse.

Brass is a combination of copper & zinc. Bronze is a combination of copper & tin. Both alloys are made up of various percentages of each metal but I think most bronzes are made from about 85% or higher copper content.

What is the point anyway? I have gotten into the habbit of clamping on any large pair of vice grips (not C clamps) that are handy when Mig Welding. Then I take my large brass ground clamp and kind of clamp it into the vice grips because I'm so **** tired of the brass clamp either not making contact because it's not sharp or coming off at the most inopertune moments! I'm kind of thinking of doing away with the brass clamp altogether and just attach my ground to a pair of vice grips.

Lincoln CV 250, 3 Phase 600 Volts, not sure of feeder model #, also Lincoln.

I know someone who did that. He welded a bolt to the top of the "fixed" jaw of his vise grips and would attach his ground wire to that. Worked well for thin stuff (under 3/4").

There are some negative reviews on the Twecos complaining about the high spring rate so they might double as grip exercisers.
I have a couple small Tweco ground clamps, I think they are rated at 200-amps. They are for a jumper ground lead from my welding table to my tripod chain pipe vice. They are a challenge to open up!

My friends that do a lot of welding, like probably millions of welds, just use an old hook made out of say 5/8" wire rod, that they drape over whatever they are working on. Sometimes it just sparks, and they give it a nudge and everything is fine once it arcs itself on, I guess.

I have enough trouble trying to weld without need for poor grounds!

No I am not mistaken. There are pure copper clamps made!

The reason to use pure copper; best conductor of electricity only second to gold.

You don't want to offer any places to find these then don't bother replying...

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?? I stand corrected...Medal for you! Talk about taking something to heart. Glad your vise grip trick works for you. I don't have a million clamps yet so need them when I build something.

Last time I searched there where no ground clamps made of silver or gold...

Thought I could be a miserable SOB!

My friends who have been welding since they were probably in diapers would likely have a good laugh at your copper ground clamp request. If you do all the figuring of the given circuits materials and resistances, I'm almost certain THAT (There I go yelling again!) would make as good as no difference what so ever.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Have a nice day.
