Twice in my tenure here I had posts deleted. I received a pleasant PM from the moderator explaining why. Once it was due to a potentially incendiary topic and once was a simple error on my part. Both times I appreciated the heads up and thanked the moderator.

I saw that thread. But it did not get me going like someone feeling that they have the right to add to data that is spread around the Internet just because someone else does. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I saw the icon before thread was posted. But sat back figuring that someone else would say something. I should have hit the moderator button when first noticed. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I thought about posting a reply to the thread sending the offending poster to this thread. But figured it would do no good. But that people reading this thread would care.

I have been here many year and have posted a few times. One post has been deleted and like you the moderator was very cordial in the PM. I have to agree that the cartoon posted, while funny. Did not meet the family standards for TBN.

I'll throw in my two cents here. In the last 2-3 months there have been several posts that I have taken the time to write, but not posted because of concern about backlash from "fan boys". Particular individuals view anything that I write as being from the devil himself. I have a bias, but I don't hide that and I like to think that I make pretty objective points. I think you have a problem when some of your most educated posters are wary about partisipating.

As for PM's, if it where up to me I'd say just disable them all together. Than those who feel that they need to make scathing remarks have to do it in a forum where they can be held accountable for what they say.

This may be considered a bit drastic, but in another forum that I belong to similar things were happening. The offending PM's were cut and pasted into the forum by the receiving party. Of course the sender of the PM was upset to say the least that he'd been 'exposed'....but guess what....the PM's stopped....what a suprise. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

A guaranteed way to get moderated! Better to send any offending PMs to Muhammad or any of the moderators via PM.

Everybody is biased, not a thing wrong with it. I appreciate information on all brands and sure don't mind constructive criticism of my brand either. Let the whiners whine, I'm interested in what you have to say. Seems like I remember something about "unprotected" hydraulic lines getting somebody's BP up, well, on a CK 30 it's true, not a thing wrong with pointing that out, so an owner can watch out or add protection if needed.

I believe my Century's FEL Hydro lines are unprotected too. I didn't see a problem with calling them that either.

John,
This same type of thing happened to the CB radio groups around the country. It was totally destroyed for everyone by a few. I sure hope that this does not happen to TBN, it is such a valuable resource.

I "found" this site about 6 months back. It is without doubt, the kindest, most diplomatic, best run site on the internet for my money.

I stumbled on to this site when there was a flair-up on the board I was posting on exclusively. It was the result of bad karma left over from the presidential elections. ('nuther topic.... DON'T DISCUSS POLITICS) It WAS a nice, friendly place. Then left wing vs. right wing idealism took a grip. People took sides. When the election bickering died, the animosity between former friends stayed on. End result...? A perfectly good message board is now but a shadow of what once was...

I don't know if there is an answer for what we're now discussing. Short of choosing up sides, seperating, and all "teams" taking a particular forum, and leaving the other "opinion group" to THEIR forum, there won't be a resolution to this issue. And the farther we go, the more bad blood is let.

At some point, we have to check our testosterone at the door, quit trying to "win" this arguement, and agree that some of us disagree. Then just let it go....

Assess the damage.... Look at the colateral damage..... Is it worth destroying the heart and soul of this site, just to settle one issue?

Like most of you guys, I've been on several other sites over the years. I've watched a few really good ones climb the ladder, then swan dive into oblivion. Don't let our differences send this one over the edge.

In the immortal words of Rodney King, "Why can't we all just get along"?

That makes lots of sense to me.

Maybe it should be one of THE rules!

No problem there... As for objectivity, sometimes it a little blurry, but you are allowed that! You certainly have helped you share of folks here!

Can someone link to a thread that is/was a serious flamer? I'm trying real hard to find stuff to be offended about but I just can't find anything that torques me. Is it primarily PM's that are causing the stink?

Help! Somebody please offend me! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey John,

I agree....some very good well thought out posts. I'll wish for smoother sailing ahead for all.

I try to get down to Monroe about once a month. Maybe we can join up for coffee and trade war stories. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ....and a face to face smile. I'd like to see more pictures of your property and projects you've got going up North.

Talk to you soon,

Don

That is part of my last post....

I guess I should have been clearer with my meaning, as I have recieved quite a number of PM's on what exactly I had in mind. (NONE of them were in any way hostile messages)

My thoughts were merely rhetorical. I have no real thoughts of "dividing" groups that don't share common opinions. I SHOULD have said that was an un-acceptable option to avoid bickering....

Just an observation on this current topic....

It seems to me that everyone is on their best behavior right now. No one wants to be "THE EXAMPLE". MAYBE that is the solution... Just keep this thread alive for all eternity......

My gripe stems from here projects And here is my reply to both...
If nothing else, two terms come to mind...consideration and customer service. You chose to edit the content of MY posts, yet, there are other posts on TBN with inline images. Since I did not violate the terms of service or the forum rules, and others are allowed to do this, maybe a PM would have helped me understand your actions a little better.
Deleting and /or editing may be a right of TBN and it's moderators, but it should be across the board. There have been other things stripped from the site that only a very few found to be wrong, but they are gone. The thread on disinternments comes vividly to mind.

A few more good words from indydirtfarmer's post<font color="blue"> Like most of you guys, I've been on several other sites over the years. I've watched a few really good ones climb the ladder, then swan dive into oblivion. Don't let our differences send this one over the edge.

What I'm reading from your post here sounds like "all or nothing", and while that may be a good goal, most human activity does not meet it. That same principle applied to law enforcement would dictate that if we can't apprehend all criminals, we should apprehend none...and I am not equating inline pictures with criminal acts, just trying to demonstrate why all or none is not viable.

If I have misread or misunderstood what you are saying, please clarify for me and disregard this. Thanks.
